Sweet Home

The ancient tree is outwardly unremarkable other than for its incredible size, with much of its ornate detailing and fine architceture hidden behind its bark. It stands nearly three thousand feet at the highest of its branches. The trunk itself is hundreds of feet around, with many of the massive branches being dozens of feet in diameter. At the base of the trunk is a massive archway opened by The Unwise Sextet three dozen feet wide and nearly twice as tall offering a wide access point to the interrior.

Details and Mechanics

The structure counts as a Medium castle (from the Fortresses, Temples, and Strongholds pdf by Warlock Homebrew creations on dmsguild.com) with a library expansion. It has 15 expansion points. The structure requires a base of 8,000gp per month (250gp per day) in upkeep costs and 100 skilled and 75 unskilled hirelings to run properly.

Expansions

  • Library : Grants bonuses to Intelligence or Wisdom based skills to find specific information.
  • Bee Hive: Provides shelter for a swarm of giant honey bees.
  • Lodgings: Provides housing for visitors.
  • Tavern: Provides rooms for visitors, and access to alcohol and refreshments

Architecture

  • The area around the tree has been cleared of overgrowth (with some large, claw-like scars on parts of the trunk, surrounding roots, and bits of the ground) and a few old structures have been uncovered (such as the ruins of an old stable, and the outlines of what were likely trade posts)
  • You see where massive windows once were, 2 dozen feet high and about a dozen wide, spaced around the inside of the trunk, still outlined in the wood though overgrown with centuries of time and layers of bark. Would have let in lots of sunlight once. Not all, but a few of the massive windows once overgrown with bark have been carved out around the trunk to let air and light inside. New glass will need to be installed as they’re mostly broken.
  • A towering piller rising up the middle of the tree covered in thick bark and layers of dust about a hundred feet across. Near the bottom looks like an archway overgrown, similar to the outside before the opening was made by Vi. Nearly the same size as well (4 lifts, each a large platform enough to lift 2 average wagons at a time)
  • A gigantic staircase spirals shallowly up the central spire, wide enough for 6 horses to walk shoulder to shoulder, as well as down below the ground.
  • Multiple archways along the walls. Some slightly less overgrown than others, that have staircases leading up through dark passages within the bark and trunk of the tree. (Platforms and balconies for rooms and overlooks are scattered along the inner wall.)
  • A well is found on the ground floor where large pipes likely once pulled water from somewhere underground to this level of the tree. The well has been made to work in a limited capacity.  It can bring enough water for a few dozen people to live off of, though for anything more than 100 people more would be needed.
  • Going down the stairs the air gets steadily cooler. Never cold, but far more chilly than the hot summer air above.  It takes a few minutes of walking to reach the bottom. Along the way, some side passages are passed but all seem to have collapsed. One subterranean store-room has been mostly cleared of old and rotted goods, though others are as of yet untouched.

History

Formerly known as the Church of the Nightwatcher, this massive oak tree was once an ornate temple dedicated to The Nightwatcher, an ancient spirit revered as a god by long forgotten peoples. While this location was not this being's dwelling, it is where the journey to find and meet her most often began.
