Eth Kraci

Eth Kraci is the northwestern most country on the continent of Quemogrura. The capitol, Flamehaven, is a massive city set in the center of the hills, with the throne of Zagnaraz, god of evocation, a few hundred miles to the south-east.
The Eth Kraci are a powerful, warrior-based people who have been granted innate evocation abilities. These abilities usually manifest in puberty, usually coming in as either destructive or healing talents, though there are other varieties as well.

Culture

Eth Kracian culture is one of combat and aggression, with a heavy focus on military service to the country. The government would provide the bare necessities to the people who served it; shelter, food, and protection. However, if there were families who did not serve in some form or other, or even settlements whose population largely refrained from service, they would often be left to their own devices and would be given no help or assistance in times of need.

The culture often split people into one of four groups:
  • Warriors: those who focused their abilities primarily on aggressive combat; training with various weapons or offensive magics. Warriors are often the generals and the grunts of combat teams, the more physical oriented fighters.
  • Healers: those who focused their abilities primarily on serving in combat; training with healing abilities and supportive magics. Healers often take on the roles of strategists and organizers for combat groups, and are regularly more intillectual or mental fighters than physical.
  • Workers: those who focused their abilities on providing for combatants; growing food, transporting goods, building structures, etc. In times of combat, these workers take on the role of messengers, or people who transport supplies such as fresh weapons or ammunition to the combatants. Though not combatants themselves, workers often recieved basic training with simple weapons or low level magic, and could serve as combatants in emergency situations.
  • Strays: those who do nothing to help with combat, or do so little as to be seen as a drain on resources.
Perahps one of the most unique features of Eth Kracian culture is their system of governmental leadership selection, in which each year a tournament is heald, with the champion fighting the current leader of the country. The winner, the first to either force the other to yield or die, is decided to be the new leader of the country.
During this trial by combat, only weapons (both natural and crafted) and evocation magics are allowed, with anything outside of this being considered weak and cheating. The common people of Eth Kraci believe that if a person must cheat their way to victory then they must be weak and so do not deserve the victory. Anyone found to be cheating during this trial of leadership will quickly be overwhelmed as those watching on join in the frey and quickly kill the would-be monarch. The day after this slaughter, whichever (still living) contestant placed next highest is given a chance to attempt to claim leadership.
Clothing: Eth Kracian clothing is simple and utilitarian.  Sturdy pants, well made boots, and a fitting but not restrictive tunic.  This is often accompanied by some form of light armor, such as a chainmail shirt or a sturdy leather vest.
Music: The often violent culture of Eth Kraci has lead to equally violent and aggressive music stylings, with a major focus on drums with a heavy and intense beat and rhythimic chanting that can also be used to organize.

History

  • During the eras of Conflict and War, and even in millennia before, the Eth Kraci were the greatest and most powerful magical warriors and healers of Shavirouk due to their natural connection to energy magics.
  • They were never able to to push through the border of their closest neighbors, Ahsweyj, the only country they were never able to invade during the war.
