Pegasus Stables

Founding

The Pegasus Guard are the elite defenders of the Terios crown and they derive their name from their use of Pegasi as mounts. The vast majority of their Pegasi are kept in the Pagasus Stables although some of the more trained ones are allowed to fly freely nearby. Originally the Pegasus guard and it's stables were founded by one hero.

Myth

According to the myth the founder of the Pegasus Guard was Abemios, the brother of an ancient Terian prince. When these two brothers were on a hunt together they encountered a manticore. During the sudden fight that ensued the horse of the prince was killed by the needles of the manticore. Unable to get out of the way in time the prince became stuck underneath it. Abemios did not hesitate, charged at the manticore and managed to kill it with a heavy thrust of his spear.   The god Atmisan was impressed by this bravery and awarded the brother by blessing both him and his horse. And so the first pegasus came into being.   Abemios would continue to go on many adventures which made him the greatest of Terian heroes. Among his great deeds are the libaration of the lands around Varos from a band of marauding giants and the destruction of the demonic fire snake people in the Endra Swamps.   After freeing the lands from its threats he settled back down in Golandon where he created the stables for his Pegasus. When they were completed many more pegasi appeared, an additional blessing from Atmisan. As there were many new pegasi, Abemios decided to train others to use them and formed the Pegasus Guard.

Death

After a long life during which he trained many elite soldiers and performed great deeds Abemios fell. During a battle against Elven invaders he was killed by an Elven mage who managed to set fire to one of the wings of his pegasus. The other members of the Guard could not reach him in time and Abemios fell to his death.

Legacy

PEGASUS, Airborne Forces Memorial by Charlie Langton
Overtaken by grief for his brother's sudden death the Terian king ordered a large statue to be made in honor of Abemios. To this day the people can still admire the statue in front of the Pegasi Stables. It shows Abemios riding his trusty Pegasus into battle. The statue itself was created in Bronze and has taken on a green color over time.   Another legacy of Abemios is the flag which to this day still has the pegasus as its official animal.   After the Abemios' death the stables were expanded to hold more pegasi. In the beginning the stables were rather basic looking. But like many buildings in the Anchia district they were rebuilt and improved several centuries later. However, the current version of the stables is still rather simple in comparison to the rest of the district.

Architecture

Since it was rebuilt the stables had received an aesthetic upgrade making the building more in line with the rest of the Anchia district. This was done during the Terian architectural period and the stables are one of the prime examples of this style.   The lower portion of the walls of the stables are covered in dark blue glazed bricks while the upper portion use light blue glazed bricks. The headquarters section itself also has a second floor which has murals in the form of clouds painted on the walls. The current roof is still the original and exists out of purple glazed rooftiles like some other buildings from this period.   Instead of the regular roof decorations, cloud patterns are used along the edges of the roofs.
