PDRMN Espatier Corp

Acting as a the special forces, expeditionary force, and as a general occupying force of the PDRMN, the Espatier Corp is an group of infantry specialist supported by the actions of the Navy. While they personally operate a few frigates, they are very dependent on the logistics and reach of the navy for greater operations.
The Espatier corps, and the PDRMN in general is not built to conquer an area, merely defend it. However, occasionally a station must be stormed, a rogue element tracked down, an area pacified, and the big guns of the PDRMN are simply too big. These are the situations for the PDRMNEC, or the EC for short.
Within the solar system they are often seen as playing second fiddle to the better trained and equipped UNSBPF, but second to the most powerful force in the known universe is not a bad position.
Unlike popular vision, the EC is mostly normal grunts, with around 2/3 being simple light infantry, a further 1/6 each as heavy infantry and cavalry and the scraps of what is left behind (normally 1/12-1/14 depending on the time period) as spec-ops. Only heavy infantry and occasionally spec-ops wear or even have access to the PDRMN Espatier Exosuit, with everyone else wearing the PDRMN Armoured Space Suit, or even, in the case of the cavalry, the PDRMN Jumpsuit.
The PDRMNEC is normally unconnected to the specific ship they are stationed on, and while they will take orders from the commander under advisement, are only answerable to their leadership.

Composition

Manpower

This is a small force, only employing 12000 people. They are mostly stationed in a few central locations around the SS, with few on some of the larger ships or in specialized transportation ships.
It is a widely known fact that due to the heavy automation, boots on the ground are not useful for nearly all situations. As such, this, the infantry of one of the largest powers in the SS is smaller than a division.
There are simply few tactical cases where a large infantry make sense, the primary one being invasion of a large power. However, the PDRMN has no intention of ever doing so, and therefore a small force, used for taking over smaller stations or acting as shipboard security,

Equipment

PDRMN Armoured Space Suit
PDRMN Espatier Exosuit
All Marines have been augmented to be better soldiers. Typically, this is just an enhancement of their visual implants, installation of higher power radios, bone sheathing, neural replacement and a little bit of muscle enhancement, but some groups within the marines go far further.

Weaponry

All Espatiers are proficient with the standard PDRMN Coil Rifle and PDRMN Coil Pistol, as well as other standard technologies such as grenades. However, many specialized heavier weapons are used frequently by even the Light infantry, the Heavy Infantry use many heavy weapons, and Spec ops have used every single piece of equipment under the sun and then some.
A common tool used by all Espatiers is Containment Foam. Sprayers can keep civilians out of harms way and provide an excellent non lethal option.

Vehicles

This is really the domain of the Cavalry, who tend to deploy small vehicles for internal habitat use, but have stored some far larger vehicles for surface ops. Most of these can operate in any environment, and a few space based vehicles also exist.

Structure

The entire thing is commanded by an PDRMN Admiral, under the PDRMN Chief and the government of the PDRM. Normally groups are commanded locally by a PDRMN Commander equivalent, under the general but often offsite command of a Captain or higher. There are only 4 flag officers in the EC, and only 7 captains (one per "operational zone"). Each platoon has a PDRMN Lieutenant Commander in command, generally with a PDRMN Lieutenant controlling of each individual squad. Each squad also has a corporal acting as second in command with a sergeant in each platoon.
The EC has two headquarters, Internal and External, which correspond to Cis-Martian space. Internal is based at the beanstalk, and provides training for the entire EC, as well as commanding operations taking place "near Mars". External is based at Contra Base, and commands all operations outside of Martian space, but normally leaves operations in near-mars asteroid belt to Internal.

Tactics

Normal insertion is done through pressurized collars that attach, weld to, and then break through the hull of an enemy ship or station. In more cooperative times, they are simply sent over by shuttle.
When inside a station or on the ground, cover is the primary goal. Due to heavy drone use, the soldiers rarely need to actually see the enemy, acting as a central command for their small armies, and as such, they very rarely have fatalities.
While ideally non-lethal methods are used, protocol dictates that the second an espatiers life is at risk, the safeties come off, and non-lethal options are put to the back-burner.

Training

Espatiers are trained at the Martian Beanstalk, in a centrifuge with up to 1.6 g. While most training, like in other branches, is done in simulators, some things cannot be simulated. A wonderful development is the coil-weapons used. They can be simply set to non-lethal, and while they will hurt, with non-lethal ammunition and speeds it would take a lot of effort to kill, and with medical help just seconds away, that has never been a problem.
On any ship they are stationed they will attempt to perform drills, mostly, by necessity, 0-g drills, and will spend large amounts of time in simulations, or in gravity enabled exercise rooms.

Logistics

Logistical Support

Marines are normally supported and supplied by whatever ship has deposited them in their location. If acting outside of easy support range, a specially developed cargo container containing a long term power supply and some spares and resources may be deposited with the team. In extreme cases, spec-ops teams may be resupplied by a stealthed torpedo or drop pod, or even by hand-delivery, though this is obviously infeasible for anything more than small items.

History

Initially, this was an ad hoc organization within the PDRMN, acting mainly as the station-board security for the early PDRMN Mars Station. However, after their first boarding action, boarding a station to free some hostages, it was decided that independent leadership and training would be more effective.
