PDRMN External Fleet
Though Mars is the power with the least interest or stake in the extreme outer solar system, the external fleet helps to maintain their hold on the few ice stations that the PDRM controls out there, sending ice on the long fall down to Mars, helping in the terraforming effort. However, due to the nature of the Kuiper belt, the External Fleet operates differently to other parts of the navy, and encourages self reliance from its crewmen and its Admiral

Structure
Commanded by an Admiral stationed at PDRMN Base Ultima , this fleet demands selfreliance due to the vast time lag encountered by simple day to day operations. With Mars never being nearer than 4.5 hours away, and typical operations involving ships a light hour from Ultima, every member of this command must be willing and capable of solving whatever problems can show up.
This fleet is far more spread out than most. 4 rear admirals control the 4 Battleship task groups, each of which are operating in a space a few light minutes wide, but it is not uncommon for a force as small as a single long range frigate be sent out to catalogue an object, investigate some suspicious activity, or just perform maintenance on some small ice station.

Logistics
Recruitment
This fleet only recruits from within the PDRMN those that can deal with the insane distances. While family can be sent to Ultima, most would prefer to not, and so the fleet is mostly unmarried without young children. The long trips out and in mean that leave is typically taken on Ultima, though travel time is not incorporated into leave. However, crew must serve double duty shifts, only returning to mars or taking a full leave once a martian year.
Even with these downsides, there are always enough candidates for open positions. It is felt that it is the only place any real exploration can be done, even if it is mostly cataloging and tracking dusty ice balls. The fact that they have never been seen by human eyes has a significant cache amongst the crew.
In addition, this command typically have larger and more comfortable cabins, excellent entertainment, very few double person cabins, and after a year of service, the crew get an all black service ribbon with a single, tiny star in the center.
