Purpose

"Tour of the Floating Isles" Was a book written in by a young Wood Elf by the name of Faerin Leyric. It is a document of his travels around the globe which he had done for a few years some time after the Shade war.
The book is full of grand descriptions of various locations, survival guides and tips on local customs. It's also filled with intricate drawings and sketches of scenes and locations he's visited.
At the end of the book, it was hinted that a sequel would be written based on a New Earth, however said book has yet to come out.
It has become quite a popular guide for those also wishing to travel or those who want to know more about the world but don't want to leave home. Copies of it can be found at many libraries.

About the Author

Faerin was a young wood elf who grew up in a small village in Aurora with his six siblings, where he did not experience much of the outside world and was rather sheltered. When he was 18 he left home for the first time to travel to the capital, Nemekadi, an experience he claims effected him so deeply he wanted to continue traveling and see the world.
Based on his writings, Fearin was known to be a rather ditsy, naive young elf lost in his own world, but he was also ambitious and many points showed him taking risks just to finish his book, despite not being the strongest or most courageous elf.

Aurora

"Here's one tip about the Aurora Forest. Don't go around putting things in your mouth. I may or may not have taken a bite out of a few magical fruits or mushrooms that had... weird side effects. I had to go to an alchemist to get that orange branch to stop growing out of my head."

Nemekadi

"Ah~ Nemekadi. I think I have only been to the capitol once in my life, when I was a little kid. It was my journey here that inspired me to write this book. I had no idea their mage tower was just a huge tree in the center of town. I'm not sure I want to practice magic where I can constantly get splinters."

Ormin The Great Fairy Tree

"Honestly I never thought I'd see The Great Fairy Tree in person, but I managed to get here during the harvest festival, the only time they let strangers in. I won't lie, as we started to ascend the elevator, I was starting to get a biiiiit acrophobic. The tree is just so tall. Walking across those platforms was giving me jelly legs, and I could hear some fairies laughing at me. But the festival was a great time none-the-less."

Faenamel

"A tragedy what happened to Faenamel, one of the many stops on my list that was heartlessly taken by the shades. I tried to stop by, but it was just.. filled with that horrible black blood that makes my stomach twist as it cakes every surface, every house and tree. I wouldn't dark tread another step towards it lest be turned into one of those horrible Dark Elves myself."

Fanentous

"There's something about the way the long grass flows in the wind that is simply hypnotic. I feel at peace leaning over the side the the caravan with the breeze in my hair. In the distance I can see the walls of the Capitol looming over the horizon. I have to say, it's rather intimating."

Fanentous Capital

"As our cart pulled up towards the capitol, the clouds parted to reveal the massive silhouette of the Capitol City. Even at a distance, the grandiose city towers over the smaller villages as a beacon and a guardian. I've only ever seen this city described in books, I couldn't believe I was finally seeing it myself."

A'ramel Alshiu

"My gods, this place is sweltering. Our guide nearly got us lost in this sandy wasteland and I ended up getting sunburnt. Everywhere you look is sand. On your left, sand, on your right, sand. NOTHING BUT SAND. Oh wait I saw a lizard. Scratch that... that's was a rock. I really regret not taking the boat down the Mizt River."

Alma Shaharee

"Alma Shaharee is such a beautiful city. The place is like a literal work of art. After walking in the heat for hours, I decided to dip my toes in the water of the aqueducts. It felt nice, but the judgmental glares from the group of desert elves passing by in their boat didn't feel so great."

Falle Anor

"Eek! This place is so creepy. We traveled here at night in order to stay out of the heat, but now it's all dark and spooky. I've heard rumors that the ruins are haunted. I really don't want to be the one to find out that the city isn't truly abandoned."

Ghliteren

"I had never climbed a mountain before I came to Ghilteren. I wasn't expecting the mountains to be are large as they were. There were a few mountains in Aurora forest, but those are nothing compared to this behemoth of a rock. My legs were so sore after the climb, and a goat tried to eat my journal! How rude!"

Howlite Hills

"When I entered the Howlite Hills for the first time, I felt a bit out of place. It's full of all sorts of real adventuring types. I walked into a supply store and told the clerk about how I was planning on making the hike up the mountain. She looked me up and down and laughed in my face. She eventually started recommending all sorts of gear and supplies saying how important they all were. Now I have a bag full of junk."

Variscite Peak

"Well, I was sore and freezing from the climb up there, but I finally made it to Variscite Peak. For a large city it feels awfully quaint and cozy, but being outside is a no go. Too cold, too high up. I should also mention I currently have a black eye from making a 'short temper' joke to one of the locals."

Aparalium

"Like most people, I too wish to take a trip to the waters of Aparlium. It's the closest thing to a real beach like in those tales of New Earth. It was so nice to dip my toes in the water, even if I did get my toe pinched by a crab."

Kheiron

"I was honestly nervous visiting Kheiron for the first time, but my book was the guide to the Floating Isles, not just the Empire. But you can't blame me for being a little uneasy. I was just a fragile elf exploring this land of giant horse people who frequently gave me strange looks and called me 'Little Biped'. Biped I'm fine with by I'm NOT little thank you very much!"

Vermilion Canyon

"After the nightmare that was the Alshiun desert, I wasn't ready to cross yet another desert, but Vermilion Canyon is actually quite beautiful in a way. The stripped cliff sides are oddly addictive to draw. I may have added about a dozen drawings into my notes of them."

Lilihum

"Despite the obvious dangers I took a secret voyage to the Lilihum islands. I know it's trespassing, but I simply couldn't pass up a chance to see the those dense, wild jungles for myself. Sure most of the species there were poisonous but it was still an exhilarating experience, despite the weird rashes."

Amaryllis

"Thank to the help of my guide transformation magic and my impecable acting skills, I managed to disguise myself as a Beastcia and entered the infamous capital city myself. It was almost overwhelming, was I the first elf to ever see the inside? The shimmering magical barrior felt even more gangrenous from inside, yet it felt so oppressive."

"I would find more enjoyment in being so blessed to have seen New Earth personally, if it wasn't so overwhelming.
