About her:
Lady Sandeux is in charge of one of the wealthiest and oldest noble Houses of Nélannie. In her youth, she was highly respected and regarded as a promising enchanting master who loved to explore the limits of magic. When she was conscripted to fight in the last war, she unsurprisingly quickly rose through the ranks to be named Lady General.
Unfortunately, the Lady General proved to be easily corrupted by the Dark Lord (known as Lord General Cenlys at the time) and ended up practising a lot of illegal and immoral magic on the battlefield. This culminated in a public ritual during which enemy soldiers were sacrificed to heal a few scratched on her men so as to win their loyalty for nefarious political purposes.
When the war ended soon afterwards and Lord General Cenlys was court-martialed in absentia, the Lady General barely avoided joining him. Prince Justin (whom many purport to have been her lover before the war) pleaded for leniency, arguing that she only did what she could to survive the war while in close proximity to such an evil character as the future Dark Lord.
However, while Lady Sandeux managed to avoid the worst, she was publicly disgraced and has lost all social and political influence. She nevertheless declined to let her nephew inherit the lordship of the House of Sandeux and stubbornly refuses to give up politics.
Since her return to civil life, Lady Sandeux has also been funding research projects for the few individuals not fleeing at the sight of her. A patron only for those brave enough to risk controversies.

Accept her money at your own risks! I certainly have more moral than to benefit from the results of human sacrifices and to get mixed with that sort of people! Nevermind all these rumours about her still being in contact with the Dark Lord and even being one of his confidents!

Lady Sandeux is deeply regretful of her actions during the war, actions that were only the fruit of deep despair and confusion. The least we can do after forcing her to go through it because of the conscription is to allow her the opportunity to repay her debt by funding worthy projects and benefitting the country.
