Summercamp 2023 Pledge in Red Sunrise | World Anvil

Summercamp 2023 Pledge

IT'S SUMMER CAMP AGAIN!!! HYYPPPEEEEEEE

I, Jacob-W, pledge to participate in WA Summercamp 2023! My third time, may it be as joyfull as the last two.

Where will I write

Primary goal: As always; have fun with friends.
Secondary goal: Diamond (or die)
World: Red Sunrise remains my primary, or Anisoptera, the steampunk world, or Castle Winter the conversation world, or my dutch world; De Kronieken van de Drieëntwintig. What ever fits the prompt, or where ever my inspiration goes.

I wrote the following in this article: Jacob's New Year's Resolutions '23. And it still is true.

Red Sunrise

This remains my main world, I want to continue to expand the world of Red Sunrise, publish more of the prose, expand the prose I have. But also shuffle some chapters around. Create a timeline or chronicles to replace the current incomplete one.

De Kronieken van de Drieëntwintig

My Dutch world, which started me wanting to be on WA. It's big and cumbersome in my brain. But I think the practise I had over the years I'm here now, has finally put me into a place to work on it without being overwhelmed (as I was before). Also this needs a timeline or chronicle to keep it clear, even for me.

Anisoptera

The newest world, steampunk/ industrial revolution dystopia. Explore it more.

Castle Winter

The idea was to world build solely with conversations. The rough story line is in my head. I should write some articles just to see if I can get it out.

Week 1 homework

Theme: Power

Red Sunrise

On the ship the ultimate power is in the hands of the Captain.

Anisoptera

The country of primary focus is:

  • Ruled by a king
  • Heavy industrialised country where factory owners rule their factory grounds as dictators.
  • Local lords tax heavy to stay on top of the pyramid
  • The armed forces have a rigid command structure.

  • Kronieken van de Drieëntwintig

  • Earth is earth, power lies with the people behind the scenes.
  • There is gods
  • And there be dragons
  • There are magicians acting as gods.
  • And all three of them are willing to fight for power, regardless the cost.
  • In Victaris there is a king without much power, the power lies with the council of nobles.
  • And there is the religious order who operate by their own laws.

  • Castle Winter

  • The power lies with the lord of the castle, and then with his daughter.
  • And the command structure in the army.
  • This world is “small” or focused on a few people looking at the events around them, “ignoring” the grand scheme of thing that they are caught up in.

  • Power (part 2)

I read the theme in the blog post as personal power, that's how I came with the points above, then on the Discord there where many other types of power. Mechanical power, magical power, earthly power etc etc. So I'll keep that in mind when the prompts come.

    Week 2 homework

    Theme: Frontiers

    Red Sunrise

I’ve no clue of yet how to incorporate Frontiers into this world. It will have to depend on the prompts.

    Anisoptera

  • There are strict borders between the social classes. (nobility/rich/businessmen/military/commoners), the MC is stuck on the edge of such a border (she is in a secret woman only military unit)
  • There is war on the eastern border of the country
  • There is a continuous development of aeronautical technology. The POV military unit is on the fore-front of that.
  • There are colonies,
  • The navy deploys the first ærocraft carriers to control such colonies.
  • Castle Winter

War with an ever shifting front line.

    Kronieken van de Drieëntwintig

  • Victaris: Rivalries between the Hertogdommen
  • Invasion of the countries from a neighbouring empire.
  • Portals to other worlds
  • Intergalactic travel by dragons
  • Borders between planes of existence.
  • Borders between time
  • summary

That’s a lot of conflicts you have there, Jacob.

    Week 3 homework

    Theme: Relics

    Red Sunrise

  • The sabre that Rose has, has an history, I might have mentioned it before, but it's a good Item to write about in this world.
  • Stares intently at his note, what on earth do I mean with Pirate Stones ooooh it says Stories.
  • Mystical treasure, there is a lot of lost wrecks around, I could send the pirates on a quest to retrive some.
  • Kronieken van de Drieëntwintig

  • Anything!
  • It's a high fantasy / quest / adventure, With several worlds engaged in a centuries old conflict. litterally anything goes in this theme.
  • Anisoptera

  • Historic powers of the nobles
  • and how the rich merchants and business owner challenge that.
  • pre steam age technology.
  • Castle Winter

  • Family tree. (oh my brain brakes if I have to explain that one, I could leave it untold. you'll don't know what my brain has cooked up, and how that influances the story, right? just never mention it, that's best I guess.)
  • the Castle itself is old, could count as a relic.
  • Week 4 homework

    Theme: Communication

    Red Sunrise

This will be difficult, as I have several language, or language related articles already in this world.
    Most famous -- --- .-. ... . / -.-. --- -.. . , but also Nautical Slang and Sailors Tattoos fall within the scope of communication.

    Kronieken van de Drieëntwintig

Ha, how do they communicate while the story spreads over 23 worlds? Magic carrier pigeons? e-mail? who knows, maybe you and me after Summercamp.

    Anisoptera

Eventhough the world is powered by steam, technology advances rapidly. Communication methods and traditions stil relies on old standard of a bygone time.

    Castle Winter

The story/timeline this world focusses on, is one in war, communication is secret, gets lost, gets delayed, or is misleading. How to convey such prompts while setting myself the limit to tell you about this world trough conversations only I do not know yet.

    My answer to the Prompts

    Prompt 35

    ..

    Prompt 36

    ..

    Prompt 41

    ...

    Prompt 42

    ...

40?! Yeah well, because there are Wildcards this year, I don't know how the numbering goes, are they included? or not? I just set up the bbcode already :P
42! Dimitris Havlidis Gave us two extra prompts in the last stream!

The 10 extra Wildcard prompts were extra, optional, not necesary. I did some, and skipped some others, in the end I only did the 32 required to reach the Diamond Badge. And I'm happy with it.

I've no specific template desire, to be honest. it really depends on the prompt that goes with it for me. My worlds are quite specific. so it's sometimes a challenge to bend them to fit. ALthough I found that they bend much further the closer to the deadline we are XD.

Castle Winter sounds like an interesting frontier to explore, no-man's-land is always an intriguing concept. Best of luck reaching ~shiny diamond~ and may the prompts be forever in your favor!

    Jun 13, 2023 00:41 by Bart Weergang

Thank you, I got the story in my brain. but I set myself the limit to tell it trough conversations, which isn't that easy to be honest. Good luck to you too!

Hell yeah! Have lots of fun reaching that shiny diamond badge again this year! \o/

Hooray to another SC. Hopefully, you have a bit of a break from the world travels to do Worldbuilding. Although I guess depending on the underway you could have some time on the ship too, just probably not as good internet.   Either way here is to another awesome July of worldbuilding!

Feel free to stop by some of my WorldEmber articles if you want. My favorites are The Book of the Unquiet Dead, Outpost of the Moons, and The Emerald Hills. Feedback is always appreciated.

All going well, I'll be home in the first week of July! So I should be having enough time to hunt for that diamond badge.
