The primary calendar used by the lands of Aemir

The calendar used in the nation of Aemir is based on the phases of the moon. It consists of twelve 28-day months and four intercalary weeks, for a total of 365 days per year. The calendar starts in the spring and ends in winter.

The Days of the Week

The days of the week are:

  • Spiritsay
  • Daray
  • Hwestay
  • Ahmay

  • Due to the regularity of the months, with each weekday occurring exactly 4 times in each month, each weekday is numbered for its placement within the month. For example, the second Daray of the month or the third Ariay. The full moon, quarter moons, and new moon fall on Spiritsays.


     

    The Months and Intercalary Weeks

    There are 12 months. Each month has 4 weeks that are 7 days long and is associated with a mystical sign.


     

    The Waxing

    The Waxing, which refers to the waxing of a new year, consists of 3 intercalary days that are considered the beginning of the new year. It is a time of solemn celebration and welcome. The Waxing is holy to Rai'lo, Estahm, and Daurn. It is commonly believed that any ill done during The Waxing will return upon its perpetrator four-fold in the new year. Omens occurring during this period are felt to auger some of the nature of the coming year. This is a time of beginnings. The sign associated with the waxing is Lunaris.

    Thess

    Thess is the first month of spring and is thus the month of thaw and of beginnings. The sign associated with Thess is The Healer.

    The Fading

    The Fading consists of the first three days of the final intercalary week. The Fading is holy to Rai'lo and Mern'tsat. The Fading is a solemn time for bidding farewell to the year and awaiting the return of spring. The sign associated with The Fading is Lunaris.

    Lormay Day

    Lormay Day is the day between years. It is not considered part of either of the years it falls between and is thus an intercalary day. Lormay Day is an equinox, and is holy to Suta, F'rion'ri, and Rinenir. This is a very solemn day, reserved for reflection and meditation on the past year and the year ahead. This is also a day for forgiveness of grudges and mending of relationships, so that the new year may begin with a clean slate. This is also a popular day for the pardoning of criminals. It is a time when all things are in balance. The sign associated with Lormay Day is Lunaris. The moon is waning gibbous on Lormay Day.
