Festival of the Candles
Holy to Dal, Parn, Silyafel, and Ja’kinnor, this is one of the quieter festivals. Story-telling is popular throughout the day, and this is a good-omened day for the presentation of new stories, writing, research, or songs. Many of the stories told on this day are akin to oral tradition and have very specific and important messages. Of course, stories are told and songs are sung for pure entertainment and pleasure, as well. After sunset, candles are lit in place of any other light sources (save the hearthfire), and families gather around the hearth for a quiet meal and time of prayer and meditation. An extra place is often set for travelers, and candles are left set in the main windows of every dwelling. It is very bad luck to turn away any wanderer that seeks shelter at one’s hearth on this night—and is even worse luck to abuse any offered hospitality.
