Winter Solstice Day
Sometimes called Yule, this day is holy to Suta, Dal, Ja’kinnor, Jenir, and Kirnlan. This is a day for gathering with one’s family and friends. There are usually no formal dances or other celebrations on this day, other than feasts for family and close friends in the evening. Children are often told that the Spirits may leave a token for them (good or bad—though somehow they usually turn out to be good) on this night which they will find by the hearth on Benefaction morning. Benefaction Eve begins after sunset, and children are encouraged to be abed early so the Spirit-messenger can delivery something they are deserving of during the night. Story-telling by the hearth is a favorite tradition on this night.
