Mole River

Running east out of the Frungof Mountains, the Mole River passes through Nerridon along its way to Furnof where it spills into the Shrew's Maw and then Zennon Sea. It is a common mistake for foreigners visiting the Nerrid Peninsula to expect to find Moles along this river however, throughout its entire path there are, however, no moles. The river instead gets its name from the Nerridian word for power - pronounced "molay" which incidentally should not be confused with "molee", pronounced the same way, which means chocolate. Chocolate, of course, is thought by the Nerrid to give one power and there are few greater delicacies in the Nerridon than chocolate covered moles. But we digress.

The river gets its name because along its route, it passes as series Nerrid made dams and waterwheels both before and after the capital, powering dozens of industrial efforts. It is also syphoned into side channels, pipes, and other wells to such an extent that where it finally leaves the Upper City it is no more than a creek a pace wide. Despite these vast industrial efforts, the water in this creak remains clear and pure, the result of some Nerrid filtering contraption dating back several centuries known as the "Mole Gate" and who's design drawings were tragically lost when one of the damns powering a mill in the city broke, flooding the inventor's library. Runoff from other mountain streams refill the river over the next scores of leagues until its is wide and placid at its mouth, making it a natural home to dozens of brackish water-loving fish and seals that find them so tasty.
