Hall of Curiosities

Located directly below the People's Square in Nerridon, the Hall of Curiosities the Nerrid Alliance's physical repository of history. Extending several levels into Old Nerridon, the open galleries of the hall are supported by marble pillars, with each level shaped from a different shade of marble. Supposedly, the original architects intended the colors to represent something about the contents of the level but whatever that schema included has been lost with the original plans into the depth of the Nerrid National Library, who's entrance runs along the northern edge of the Hall, though the Library extends dozens of levels deeper.

Like much in Nerrid society, the Hall serves a numerous purposes. Not only does it offer a fascinating insight into the history of Nerrid scientific and engineering research, it also serves as a place of worship. Nerrid worship is, of course, quite different than that of most. Nerrid stuck on a project will often travel to the Hall to wander, looking at the artifacts often at random, seeking inspiration to solve whatever problem they might have. Priests of Intrix wander the Halls themselves, serving as sounding boards and, when possible, explaining a bit of the history of whatever artifact is in question.

Without a defined schema, it is left to the priests of Intrix who curate the hall to determine where everything is displayed. Most head curators have a plan in mind when they attain the post only to find that records of what is actually contained within the hall and where it is displayed are horribly out of date. The problem, of course, is that most Nerrid feel it is their moral duty to donate various versions of their experiments, findings, and research to the Hall. The intake of new artifacts is tremendous, sometimes as much as a score of wagonloads each day. The Hall, however, is horribly understaffed. Nerrid would far prefer to invent and explore than catalogue that which was already invented. As a result, every level of the Hall is stuffed fill of artifacts and displays in the most haphazard fashion, with only the most aged of docents having any hope of finding anything.
