Goose Lake
Set in the southern hills of the Frungof Mountains, Goose Lake is a picture of mountain tranquility for much of the fall, winter, and early spring. Surrounded by birches and pines, the ice blue waters of the lake are home to a thriving population of cold water bass and lake trout. Other than the occasional chatter of a chipmunk of the low of moose wading in the shallows, there is little that would prepare a visitor for the cacophony that descends upon the lake in the late spring. As the final snows melt, flock after flock of geese return to the lake from their winter roosts on the Prydith Peninsula to spend their summers, molt, and raise their young. There are so many geese that space on the shore for nests is fiercely contested with hissing fights a common sight until the various flocks settle down for the summer.
