Frungof Mountains
A small, generally low-lying range of mountains in the center of the Nerrid Peninsula, the Frunghof Mountains stay snow free in the warm, humid summers of northwest Tarien while becoming fully blanketed with snow during the winter. The wet weather makes them a haven for both biting insects and wild flowers - their high meadows and valleys awash in color from late spring to early autumn. The lush vegetation makes them the perfect home for marmots, deer, sheep, and rabbits. Such a variety of small creatures brings with it a number of predators ranging from foxes and wolves to great mountain hunting cats and golden bears.
While the shortness of the mountains is often compared to the stature of its Nerrid residents, the mountains contain a wealth of ores. Iron, nickel, copper, and aluminum are found in abundance and mined heavily via the labyrinth of tunnels that make up Old Nerridon. These metals help supply the myriad industries one finds in the Nerrid Alliance. In addition to these more traditional natural treasures, Nerrid have pulled out jet black rocks that crumble easily and, more importantly, burn slow and hot. They have named this ore "coal" and have used it to fuel forges and furnaces throughout the city.
