Eldarin

This most ancient of Eldorian villages sits along the Selkirn River in west central Eldoria. Lush farmland, divided by crumbling stone walls that separate with family farms that have been passed from generation to generation, surround the village as far as the eye can see. And while most of the fences show their age, the homesteads do not. Farmers in the region do a brisk business providing the Imperial Palace with food and typically have plenty of coin to spare. Along with the fences that criss-cross are the roads - many cobbled even miles from the village, that provide everyone in the region with easy access to the village, the palace, and, if desired, Karradone.

The village itself contains dozens of stone and timber buildings reaching three and even four stories in height. Most of the roofs are red clay tiles and the upper stories plastered and washed white. Among the maze of streets one can find the usual businesses - smiths and coopers, wheelwrights and brewers - but in greater quantities that one might imagine in a small town. The Palace does such a brisk business that the village supports three chandlers and even a pair of glass blowers. Most prevalent, of course, are the inns and taverns. Numbering nearly two dozen, they cater to travellers, visiting nobles, merchants, and soldiers alike, with each inn targeting a different class of clientele.

While the Imperial Palace is huge - it has over a hundred guest suites of its own - many dignitaries elect to conduct business away from the prying eyes of the Empower. Indeed, most Eldorian nobles have a small country farm around Eldarin of their own for just such purposes. With so many noble landowners n his fiefdom, Count Stargazer, While the business of the Empire officially transpires at the Palace, many handshake deals, arranged marriages, and other political maneuvers are conducted on these small estates.

The Imperial Legion, stationed in force at the palace, does double duty by providing services in peace keeping. Unlike their brethren in Karradone, they are not susceptible to the bribery tactics so common to the Imperial Forgers. The Brotherhood, however, always adapts. They have found that what the Legion has in honesty, it lacks in cleverness and few crimes are well investigated or solved. This makes Eldarin one of the worst places in the Empire to keep track of one's purse. More serious crimes, however, are kept to a minimum. Visiting dignitaries might raise a fuss at a slew of murders and that would shift attention toward the Brotherhood, jeopardizing its most lucrative enterprise - politics.
