Mistspan

Stretching across the thunderous horseshoe Talbourne Falls, the Mistpan connects Dawnlight to Evenglow. The surf churning below, both from the tides and tumult of the Falls, perpetually shrouds the structure in a cloud-like spray, earning the bridge its name and lending everything on it a dark, damp, and dream-like quality.

Situated between heavily trafficked commercial shelves of Smithtown and the Market Table, it serves as the primary point of transit for the populace as they move back and forth between the different sides of Phelandria. Over the decades since its construction, entrepreneurs and speculators have taken advantage of this, layering street carts, market stalls, and even buildings directly onto the bridge itself until the path for traffic itself narrowed to winding the three span width that the Lionguard desperately tries to keep clear today. These constructions, many temporary but others more permanent, include an array of shops selling food, ale, and day-to-day necessities. Some of the more permanent constructions have become connected via small bridges of their own while others have grown up and over the sides of the bridge, cantilevered over its edges like barnacles clinging to the side of a ship. These precarious perches often serve as cheap lodging for those that either earn their livelihood on the bridge or cannot afford to live elsewhere. With their lives spent in perpetual mist these residents have earned the nickname Fogfolk from the rest of the city, their circumstances giving it a derogatory connotation.

A Night Stroll on the Mistpan

Unlike Roika's Walkway, whimsically spun between the homes of the city's wealthiest and its public gardens the Mistspan, built of the same red stone as the most of Phelandria's buildings. And while this gives the wide structure the appearance of something stronger and more solid than its cousin, the softness of this stone and proximity to the Waterfalls's spray causes it to crack and crumble more readily, meaning some portion of the bridge always finds itself under repair. Crews from Clinkwell barricade whatever section undergoing repairs, often moving their barricades from day to day, shifting the ebbs and flows of traffic and street vendors around them. This same spray eats at the structures tacked onto the bridge, rot and mildew sapping their strength until their inevitable collapse, often taking whole buildings and its residents to meet Zardula in the plunge pool below.
