The Sluice
Midway up the cliffs, the Sluice features some of the most inexpensive housing and worst aromas in Dawnlight. With its emphasis on the those undesirable, yet necessary trades, the shelf gets its name from the river of effluvium that runs down its main avenue, eventually vanishing into Talbourne Falls where its contents dilute under a deluge of water. Filled with the runoff from tanneries and slaughterhouses, dyers and soap makers, its deep brown mélange has been known to melt boots from those unwary enough to step fully into it.
While some of the craftsmen maintain shops in the district, like most of Phelandria's wares, refined goods are sold at the Market Table or, for pricier wares in Amberlane. Successful practitioners of these trades often, earn enough coin to live in nicer districts. Those willing to live with the stench that let apartments above their shops come from the lowest class of menial workers such as street cleaners, day laborers and of course, apprentices to the very trades that give the district its name.
