The Wilds
Above the Estates District, buffering the manicured ground of the mansions belonging to Phelandria's wealthiest, sits a shelf filled with tamarisk, cypress and cabob trees, its understory a mass of wild grapes, lavender, and myrtle. This explosion of verdant life has encroached upon the Jewel of the Empire by both design and negligence.
When Roika carved the new city out of the rubble left by Verdun's strike, she followed the lead of millers who had long used the Falls to saw lumber and grind grain. She had intended to use the next shelf as a district for the city's minor nobles and wealthy merchants. Fearfully of both timber and that racket that might land on their heads, they demanded that Roika both place a shelf between The Mills and their homes as well as keeping them above everyone else in Dawnlight.
The solution - a grand park. Employing Imperial gardeners, Roika created a narrow shelf whose winding cobblestone path meandered though a paradise of ornamental trees. Situated at either of the shelf, two great stone arches carved by Khadric masters guard both entrances. In between, one finds carefully manicured gardens, filled with flowers imported from Azermathia.
Planned gardens, however, require staff to upkeep and the wealthy of Phelandria assumed that coin for such upkeep would come from the Le Carre's. Having already beggared the Empress with the rebuilding project, Duke Carre refused, leaving its maintenance up to those who had asked for it.
The result, a paradise for Chetria's faithful as native trees and foliage have encroached uncontrollable on Roika's masterpiece. Today, its famous arches look like tunnels through the greenery and a herd of deer has moved in to take advantage of the buffet. Beyond the millers and those members of the Porters' Guild tasked with transporting lumber and grain, few visit the Wilds today. Of those that dare to visit at night - slipping past the guards posted to keep squatters out of the park - swear that something yellow eyed and large dines upon the antlered residents.
