Lionguard
Named for the black maned lions that once ruled the mountainous coastline around Phelandria, the Lionguard is both the personal guard of the Le Carre Family and watch for the city. Its members typically come from the city populace, with many Guardsmen serving proudly in the footsteps of their parents and grand parents. They swear their allegiance to the Duke instead of the Eldoria, having had no need to defend the city itself for over eight centuries.
Specializing as bodyguards or policework instead of the mass unit tactics of the Imperial Legion, the two groups maintain a fierce rivalry that has only grown in the recent political climate. Traditionally, of course, the Legion has no jurisdiction in the city outside of the Naval Base, using it only as a muster point for excursions throughout the Inner Seas. In recent years, however, the chancellor has begun to reign in the power of various Dukes and Counts and has authorized several operations within the city proper. The ensuing conflicts have yet to extend beyond the exchange of insults like "toy soldiers" and "tin men" but many in the city worry that Duke le Carre will eventually push his
Lionguard on Patrol
cousin to far as he continues to recruit and train far more Lionguard that are truly needed to police the Jewel of the Empire.
