Ducal Reserve
Where exactly is the boundary of the Ducal Reserve? Over the decades since the newly minted Duke declared the lands atop the Cliffs of Talbourne "adjacent" to the Palace on the shelf below his private hunting reserve, that forest has changed in size and shape, growing to fill the abandoned fields with newly sprouted cabob and tamarisk. The tree line now extends to a old, crumbling stone wall, nearly a quarter league west of the cliff's edge and runs all along the top of Verdun Bay, descending rapidly until it meets the Eldorian Sea.
The current Duke cares little for hunting the deer, boar, and hares that fill the reserve. That does not mean that he tolerates anyone else who might wish to partake in that past time inside his lands. Poaching and even the taking of firewood from this loosely defined forest is a hanging offense and the Duke hires a half-dozen rangers to patrol the forest and manage it. This mostly hands off approach has made it one of the wildest places on the Island of Eldoria, encouraging a pack of wolves and even a small pride of black-maned lions to call it their home.
