Opal Union
Public Agenda
The Opal Union is officially an association that oversees and regulates ship traffic through the Opal Portal.
In reality, it is the dominant political player in the Alphi sector which puts them on a constant collision with the cooperatives of Hieregard and the councils of Midregard who are dependent on trade through the portal infrastructure.
Territories
Empty Space
Between the permanent and probabilistic regions, in and around the portal, the Opal Union makes a direct claim on an area of open space resembling a curved pyramid. With the portal as a base, the combined territory measures:Base: 5000km diameter
Height: 40,000km, 47:53 ratio below and above the bend
Slope: 54°27′44″ below bend, 43°22′ above bend
Military
Contractual Navies
The Union gives contracts out to armed ships for any assignment they partake in. In certain cases, independently owned ships are given mandatory security contracts to supplement a full-time security workforce during times of increased demand, or when there is a shortage of personnel, and released when their services are no longer required. It is important to note that the use of contractual personnel can raise questions about accountability and oversight, as contractors may not be subject to the same rules and regulations as military personnel. These contractors are typically hired to perform specific tasks or services, such as providing logistical support, conducting maintenance on ships and equipment, or serving as security personnel.
Foreign Relations
Sector Leader
Due to its great importance in interdimensional trade, the Opal Union often represents those of the humanosphere living in Miasmic Astral when interacting with the councils of Dyson or the panteons of the Nataraja stars.Laws
Unauthorized Transit
It is not the union's goal to patrol the entirety of their proclaimed space. If there is some personal vessel or family ship wishing to traverse the portal on their own and bypass our fees; they are free to do so. Our rail is simply the safest way to cross. The outer areas of the union's claimed territory can be fraught with randomly opening portals that can lead to random teleportation elsewhere in the universe, far from the pipeline; or into Manidweepa, potentially far from Bhuvarlok. They can also be completely destroyed in the process by these smaller temporary portals. However, in the event a ship disappears or is rendered into debris, the Union would need to clear the resultant junk to protect their infrastructure. To pay for this, they had convinced the other businesses and city entities to implement taxes on all their space-faring crafts in order to pool resources to act as insurance and to fund viable search and rescue efforts where possible.
Trade & Transport
Tri-Rail
This is the guide rail that defines the path along which the elevator rides. It consists of a power cable, data connections and empty pipes meant to transfer desirable materials. A lot of materials and engineering went into its construction. But as it would turn out; it may have been greatly over engineered due to the paradoxical nature of the portal:Infrastructure
White Station
Also called 'Opal Station', Station White is a human made extension to the Timeline's original, unmoving, train stop. The rail, upon leaving the portal, makes an almost 90 degree turn into White's waiting clamps as a means of slowing the car down.Spaceport Black
Also called 'Opal Station', Station Black acts as a counterweight to the 40,000km of rail just before it enters the portal. The station uniquely circles around the point where the rail connects with the portal to provide simple gravity to its occupants while keeping the rail transit as smooth as possible to and from White.
