Talocin (ta-low-seen)

Artificial vehicles for minds to be uploaded

A talo is a walking platform for extensive civilian and military use. Mass produced talocin have some measure of standardization reflected in their stats. Pilotless talocin have no Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma of their own. When a pilot does drive the talo; it adopts of the driver's CON, while INT, WIS and CHA are rerolled.

    Power Generation

    Miniature Power Plant

For the most basic models, a gas turbine provides the power for each platform lasting up to 8 hours, when running medium power. They are further backed up by a highly energy dense fuel cell in the event of an emergency.

    Propulsion

    Walking

Sensors read the force and direction inputed by a thought, which was then translated by the computer into pre programmed leg movements. The driver created cues to the suit of their intentions that their computer then carried out; taking into account the terrain and any momentum. Solid-state gyro sensors and a dynamic balance system compensated for shifts in the unit's center of gravity with instantaneous adjustments to maintain an upright posture.   However, direct hits or impact from something large enough can overcome the suit's strength and versatility. A driver is able to punch, lift cargo crates or build prefab units by themselves.

    Weapons & Armament

    Multi-purpose

The basic layout design forgoes integrated weapons. Though suits can be armed with a variety of weapons, either to carry or built-in.   The suit mimicks the same functionality as a human with two legs, two arms and highly dexterous hands that allows it to perform normal duties that would be required in a man-made environment. These are all controlled directly by the drivers own thoughts using zero-latency systems.   The limbs are activated in a similar manner; transitioning between standing rest position less than a second. Due to the inherent spacial differential in the mind of the CPU and the rest of the body, allowed for movement in a 1:100 ratio. This scaling improves the spatial positioning of the body which automated to a perfect 1:1 response with the pilot.   Manipulators

    Armor and defense

    Skeletal Frame

Talocin are composed from locally sourced composites, ceramics and electronics around other complex components. Due to the typical materials used in its construction, a talo is surprisingly light in a gravity environment. The feet and lower legs are reinforced for shock resistance. Transparent, impact-resistant, glass-polymer laminate are used where lenses are required such as with cameras or scientific instruments.   The main enclosed chassis is maintained at 0.3 PSI over pressure to prevent ingress of alien atmospheres and as a seal against vacuum which can be further protected with additional blast shields.

    Automated Systems

Suits have a walk back ability up to the range that this power plant provided that is either triggered by the driver or remotely from a supervisory headquarters.   Also included, is a built-in breathing apparatus in the event a following organic is in need of one.

    Communication Tools & Systems

    Transmitters

Every suit has to be calibrated to its driver to limit the chance of mental hyperextension. In the event of an emergency, cybernetic chips planted near the neck area can beam their consciousness away from the place of immediate danger to a backup server or spare talo.

    Sensors

A talo comes with a basic package of 360 degree sightlines, radar, active infrared and passive thermal targeting.   Alongside a full body force feedback system that resisted movement when suits missed an obstacle and applied proportional pressure to simulate touch sensations. This allowes the driver to handle delicate things without breaking them or operate in total darkness using touch alone.
Sight: A talo without visual sensors suffers a -4 penalty on related skill checks and cannot make Spot checks.   Sound: A talo without audio sensors suffers a -2 penalty on related skill checks and cannot make Listen checks.   Touch: A talo without tactile sensors suffers a -4 penalty on all Demolitions, Disable Device, Forgery, and Repair checks.

    Additional & auxiliary systems

    Personal VR

Most talocin carry enough memory and processing power to facilitate an internal virtual reality homepage.   An internal heads-up display and external sounds are reproduced within the VR with directionality which enable communication with others nearby via external speakers.

    Self-Destruct Option

Install a self-destruct feature succeed a DC 20 CON check. If failed by 10 or more, the system detonates.   Normally detonates when hp is 0. Otherwise, a DC 30 CON check can change the detonation trigger at a higher number of hp.   Bystanders must succeed a reflex save: DC 10 + 1/2 the talo's damage dice to reduce the damage by half.

Frames are essentially mechanical skeleton. They provide the base purchase DC, Hit Dice, and ability stats, as well as purchase DC modifiers for improving stats. Frames are perfectly capable of functioning on their own, though alot of their innards are exposed.   A character can commission, or build their own, provided they are in a workshop or factory that has the components. Passing the check and investing time in its construction:
  • 12 hours for a Tiny or smaller
  • 24 hours for a Small to Large
  • 48 hours for a Huge or larger   Castings are essentially the hard plastic or metallic casings that give the shape suggestive of a living creature. Passing the check and investing time in its construction:
  • 24 hours for a Large or smaller
  • 72 hours for a Huge or larger   A narrative complication for either can go as high as a -4 penalty on the check.
