House of Carterhold (Area of Concern: Labour)
Structure
Vizier and Viziera
Vizier Djann Carterhold: Vizier Djann Carterhold runs the workforce of Palimpsest with little regard for the actual workers. He seems to have been the driving force behind the secret Mongrelfolk chattel slave ring, although his family were at least complicit enough to have also met Tyl'rr Do'urden, the Drow who was responsible for transporting the slaves. Djann's mother was an enforcer for the Pinkerton Security Racket before Djann ascended to nobility, and the family still has close ties to that feared organisations of strike breakers.Viziera Weaver Carterhold (d.): The late Viziera, Weaver Carterhold, was a medium-level Viziera presence at Court: neither overbearing nor as cautious as many of the non-human Vizieras. After contracting the Shakes from the pairaka masquerading as Yvette the Courtesan, Weaver died in the subsequent wasp-attack on the affected nobility.
Subvizier
Subvizier Bedlah Carterhold: Two-year-old Bedlah Carterhold is the "miracle baby" that usurped the Subvizier title from his sister, Katiba Rouge Carterhold, despite her being twenty years his senior. Being a baby, he doesn't have any responsibilities yet.Vizier's Other Children
Katiba Rouge Carterhold: After losing her rank of Subvizier, and her betrothal to Katib Castor Stargazer was called off, Katiba Rouge Carterhold fell off the rails somewhat. Her rebellion has led her to join Cody's Gang, a group of miscreant noble kids headed by Katib Cody Bakerstreet, although it's unclear at this point whether the gang is a bad influence on her, or she's a bad influence on them.Katiba Quince Darktusk-Carterhold (banished): The Vizier's younger daughter, Katiba Quince Darktusk-Carterhold, was the Subviziera (and briefly Viziera) of the House of Darktusk, one of the two Orcish noble families at Court. She lived at the Darktusk Estate with her husband, then-Subvizier Sheikh Darktusk and their Half-Orc son, Katib Gast Darktusk before being banished in the same Whisper Vote that demanded the execution of her husband.

Nightmares
"The vizier of the Poorman fears revolution. He knows what thoughts darken the minds of those it is his role to keep in place. He knows what he would do in their position. And what they must surely do sooner or later themselves. His eldest daughter shares fears I know very well. The theme of her nightmares is powerlessness. Powerlessness of her own trajectory in the world. Over the whims of the court. Powerlessness to protect those she cares about more deeply than she is willing to admit. Her sister fears for the baby, the little son she bore. A half-breed in a world unkind to half-breeds. And the baby of course, one of those few in the court still young enough to really see me for me. His fears are the purest. He fears what lies under his bed. What lurks in his closet. He has not the words to express it. But on the level of all such tiny tots he fears the Thing in the Downstairs Room."The Man Who Is Not There tells Lindie Asklepa the nightmares of the Noble Court.
History
Copperday, Poormoon, 1284
The House of Carterhold was the third Human noble family to be established by the Lord Captain Emissary. Under the constellation of the Poor Man, House Carterhold would oversee labour and food production within the city.Needleday, Tinkermoon, 1313
During the gnoll revolt at Barker's Menagerie, Hugo Dargent discovered a ledger containing evidence of a recurring order of Mongrelfolk chattel slaves. The order was written in Vizier Djann Carterhold's handwriting and displayed the Lord Captain Emissary's seal, although the transportation of the slaves was attributed to a third party "Do'urden". Hugo gave the actual evidence to Kitty Storm at the Undergazette, but he did inform his father, Richard Dargent, of having seen the order at the Menagerie and told him roughly what it had said.Religion
