Richard was born to wealthy bankers, Mercanus and Mirabilis Dargent, who were using their kitsune shape-shifting ability to illegally maskerade as humans in order to benefit from the privileges enjoyed by the more dominant species.Copperday, Tinkermoon, 1278
Richard's parents were callously cruel as he was growing up. He still remembers the exact date that Mercanus broke then 12-year-old Richard's arm, most likely on purpose, as the last time he cried. Judging by Richard's treatment of his own children, it is likely this was not an isolated event (although it may have gone further than other disciplines).Adulthood
At some point Richard met and married Guinevera Vixois, a ruthlessly power-hungry kitsune from lower in the city who complemented Richard's own ambitions.Goldday, Richmoon, 1287
Not realising that the pair were actually kitsune in disguise, the Lord Captain Emissary selected Richard and Guinevera Dargent to become the sixth "human" family at the Noble Court, where they would manage the city's finances under the constellation of the Rich Man.Takesday, Beggarmoon, 1289
Believing his parents did not have enough vision, Richard arranged a Whisper Vote to remove them from the Noble Court. The vote, which was officially called by Richard, reached an almost unanimous verdit of exile (including from the Lord Captain Emissary), although the Ratrider and Jackalslicer families did vote to forgive. The Underhand, Bakerstreet and Shajara families abstained (one of the few times the Shajara's have voted differently from Richard). Although they were clearly ambitious (and, as far as the world is concerned, human), the difference in how far they were willing to go in their attaining of human power led to some kind of family split.Personality Characteristics

Richard operates as Vizier of House Dargent under the constellation of the Rich Man. More interested in the worldly applications of his religion than his wife, Richard has a close relationship with Archdeacon Zaccheus Simony, head of the Rich Man's Church. The Archdeacon officially has no higher authority other than the Rich Man himself, although in practice, he answers to the more dominant Vizier.
Richard is a Cleric of the Rich Man, and wields a silver coin with his own face on it as his divine focus. Whenever Richard channels energy through the coin (when he is disciplining his children, for instance), an imprint of the coin is left on his target, which in the case of his children he tends to heal away after dealing the punishment.
In the early hours of Copperday, Tailormoon, 1313, Richard used the same attack on Katiba Wiggin Bakerstreet when she got too close to discovering House Dargent's secret Kitsune identity. After flinging her from her flying carpet, Richard sought out her bleeding out body on the ground below and used negative energy to burn away the evidence of the coin imprint, killing her in the process.
