Halfway House

Situated on the road between Northfarthing and Rooktown and a little over an hour’s walk from Lake Bolo is a large building that lacks the elven influence or whimsical Halfling charm that marks most every other building in the The Donneshire Hills. More than anyplace else, this seems built for bigger folk. Above its front door, a swinging sign bears the fraction ½ above gilded script that reads, “The Halfway House”.   Built many years ago by human traders and fey scholars who preferred to stay out of the Halfling settlements, the Halfway House has become a successful layover for those traveling between Northfarthing and Rooktown. The Ale is strong, the food is warm and there are plenty of beds for bigger folk. With its proximity to Lake Bolo its not uncommon for scholars who study fey and fairy folk to rent rooms for long periods of time. Of course this proximity to the Lake also carries a frequent warning from the barmen at the Halfway House. All guests must take care when approaching the Lake, especially at night, and the proprietors of the Halfway House “bear no responsibility for stolen or lost items or children.”   The Halfway House is owned and run by Peter Sandywine and Merle Sandywine, twin halfling brothers who bought the Halfway House many moons ago. Travelers come and go from this Inn but a permanent fixture is Daisy Burnsom, a thin human woman and fey scholar. Daisy is a spinster who has spent her life studying the fairy folk by day and helping the Sandywine brothers by night. If anyone has questions about the fey or the Lake, Daisy is their best bet.   Peter and Merle’s father, Henry Sandywine also lives within the halfway house, wracked with dementia.   Peter's son, Bert Sandywine, tends to the horses and stable outside of the Halfway House.   There are 7 private rooms and the common room. Private rooms are 3sp per night, the charge for the common room is 1sp.

Architecture

The halfway house is a sizable two story Inn, with more human influence than elven or halfling.

Tourism

Scholars who study fey creatures often stay at the Halfway House because of its proximity to Lake Bolo.  It's location halfway between Northfarthing and Rooktown also makes it an advantageous stop for those on the road.
