Northfarthing Downs

The Dog track in Northfarthing is arguably the premiere source of entertainment for the residents of the Donneshire Hills. Once a month from the spring to fall, elven greyhounds are raced for the delight of the Halfling community. They are heavily bet upon, and many of the residents of the Shire take particular interest in the races, the trainers, and of course, the dogs themselves. The season culminates in the Northfarthing Derby, an annual event that closes the Harvest Festival every year.   The track itself is an oval approximately 300 yards in length flanked by two high grandstands for viewing. Underneath the grandstands are a ticket booths and windows to place bets on the races.  At the sound of a bell, the dogs are set free from their gates to chase after the “coney”, an illusory rabbit that races just in front of them.
