Krezzym

"Krezzym is a beautiful city, especially from the air. When you look down and see all those red roofs and the honeycombed streets you can see the beating heart of courage. This is where humanity will make its final stand, or my name isn't Arronax."   ~Margrave Arronax Skinner, Elector of Cambreath

Government

The Elector Council of Cambreath has its seat in Krezzym and nominally rules it. To manage the day-to-day and law enforcement functions, they appoint a rotating gallery Edlers to look into requests by the citizens.   The Elector of Cambreath, Margrave Arronax Skinner, also has his seat in Krezzym.

Defences

In addition to the bridges and roads which were built for defense, two walls stand in defense. They are called the Outwall and the Highwall. The Outwall is 12 ft. high and constructed of large, uneven granite stones designed to withstand an impact and settle back down into place. Inside, the Highwall was built from a special Stonecutters Society concrete combining Wardstone with adamantine powders and granite shards. The effect is a nigh-unbreakable wall 25 ft. high with 18 towers that rise up to four times that height. On a clear day, the ballistas atop these towers can accurately fire past the Outwall. These towers serve as the barracks for the town guard and the upper reaches are controlled and used by the Knights of the Barghest as their barracks and griffon aeries.   The Watchman: An ancient statue of hewn stone, which shines with a cold light when the town is under threat.

Industry & Trade

Cambreath government is largely funded from donations and tariffs on guild activity.   The town's exports are mostly from the innumerable craftsmen shops. They produce high quality handmade goods.

Infrastructure

A careful honeycomb of roads has been overseen by a series of Edlers charged with managing expansion from the very beginning of the city. These roads were built with defense in mind: the roads are narrow and invaders would find themselves always under threat of being corralled by the defenders. There are no long straight lines, making any draconic strafing a waste of time.   A small outpost of the Golden Tower has set up shop uptown.   For sanitation, the city uses 'kackbarrels', which are collected by kackmen and processed into fertilizer provided to various farmland.   Several public watermills grind grain for the public, and a grain dole can be collected in the form of porridge and bread for citizens in need.   Nine bridges cross the Grasping River. They are drawbridges operated by clever gnomish devices commissioned from Karakadaw, and can be raised or lowered by a single operator with a key. When bridges are down, spiked adamantine bars sink any large vessel that attempts to pass. Each bridge collects a 30 GP toll for any vessel passing beneath outside of scheduled raisings (once at midmorning, once at noon, and once at midevening). If the city were invaded, bridge operators could cut one side off from the other by raising the bridges.

Districts

Highwall - The central citadel and castle, home of the Knights of the Barghest as well as the Cambreath Home Guard.   Castle Creche - The most upscale area of Krezzym, the place directly protected by the castle with the easiest access to the courts and councils.   Suthbredge - A worker's district traditionally populated by craftsmen, architects, and engineers. Home of the locally based guilds.   Cloudgarden - The bulk of the city's upper to middle class residents and businesses, sometimes seen as a city within a city.    Downtown Proper - Controlled by the city's lower to middle class, home of the city's undermarkets.   Dockside - Location of the bulk of the city's docks, both above and below the waterfall. Home of the fishmarkets.   Newgarden - Farmers, farmer's markets, and gong farmers. Even tie with Dockside for the most superincumbent smell.   Bloodwaters Park - A large memorial park surrounding the city's Ossuary.   Keebton - A district run by Elven Expats.   North Roadside - A district largely populated by the lower class, outside of the city's walls and occasionally subject to Hellion raids in times of particularly low control.   Guildborough - The major market district, much of which is operated and owned by investors from Eldermeare.

Architecture

Most buidlings in Krezzym are white stone with red clay-tiled roofs. Many of them have opted for Wardstone bolstering, endlessly aggravating the mages.

Geography

The Great Grass Ocean surrounds the city, which is built on one of the few terrain features of the plains: a cliff that divides the city between uptown and downtown. The Grasping River bisects the town between east and west, and splits on the southern end into a fork.   The skeletal corpse of a massive Titan named Barokaz is buried in the center of the dip, and only parts of the skull and a few bones are visible above the stone.

Natural Resources

The Grasping River yields a bounty of fish, eels and river pearls.
