Margrave Arronax Skinner

Margrave Arronax Skinner (a.k.a. The Barghest, The Adamantine Knight)

"The Margrave is a good man, but not all of him made it back from the Doomed Crusade. He was caught behind enemy lines before the disaster, and carved a bloody path home through the fleeing greenskins after their warlord had been thrown from the cliffs. He told me once that he saw something in the Badlands that haunts him every minute of every day, but even I couldn't get out of him what precisely he had seen.   "Suffice it to say that if it rattled the soul of the Adamantine Knight, then it's something we should all be watching very closely. Thank the Demiurge for men like Margrave Skinner."   ~Archmage Dulacar

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Arronax is a slab of lean meat, scar tissue, and sharp-edged bone.

Facial Features

Arronax was handsome once, the very picture of the noble knight in the flower of youth. Now, numerous injuries have taken their toll and his face and body are a mass of scars. His bones have been broken and healed repeatedly enough that his face has lost much of its symmetry.

Apparel & Accessories

Skinner wears a suit of Kadenium full plate, wields a spear tipped with the same material, and bears the Kiloshkokan (A longsword ironically named Sledgehammer in the goblin tongue).   Kiloshkokan is a Longsword of Goblin Slaying, a +1 longsword that acts as a +5 longsword when wielded against goblins, as well as doing 1d6 extra necrotic damage to them. It also glows white-orange when in their presence.

Specialized Equipment

The Margrave carries a whistle that only his griffin can hear.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born to Lers the Griffon knight and Meghazne of the Golden Tower, Arronax was raised in enough comfort that his training was his whole life. His father trained him in the arts of war, and he was a skilled swordsman by the time he hit puberty. His mother taught him history and instilled in him a love of books.   His Becoming was a grand adventure. He and his companions traveled to Viopelac to investigate a missing trade caravan. One thing led to another and they found themselves fighting for their lives against a bandit king. They came out on top, with Arronax claiming the bandit king's head. While sources vary on just how many they killed, the scalps yielded them enough bounty money to buy enough equipment to become adventurers. It wasn't long before they heard of Bishop Vander XIII's call to arms, and they joined the crusade with the rabble.   Being more experienced and better equipped than most of the crusaders, Arronax and his companions were assigned a place in the vanguard, which quickly became a rearguard when the crusade collapsed around them. The last anyone saw of them, Arronax and company were alone amid a sea of green, fighting for every precious second they could buy the retreating humans.   What occurred over the next month has never been found out. Arronax will never speak of it, simply that "he saw the future, and the future is green if we're not careful." One month after he was last seen, he stumbled out of the Badlands into Alcedene with his clothing stained black from greenskin blood, his armor shattered, and his sword shivered down the center.   When he had recovered, he entreated his name into the Cambreath Elector Council's deliberations for the next Margrave of Cambreath. The decision wasn't even close, as most of Cambreath's best fighting men with any experience with greenskins were dead.   Since then, he has worked tirelessly to defang the greenskin threat. He heads up the Knights of the Barghest and coordinates with the The Hopewell Aspirants.

Margrave Skinner is rumored to be courting a woman from Clan Weejet. Any attempt to pry further into this results in a duel.
