If the Balatari are the meat of the military of the Maecodian Confederation, the Cambren Balatari are its muscle. Over the years, they received the brunt of the wrath of the Northrealm giants, the greenskins, dragon incursions, and undead uprisings. It has shaped the people who live there into a martial and rugged people, though some would say stubborn and often belligerent.
Structure
Like most cantons, Cambreath is organized in the confederated system. The towns elect their own mayors and send electors to the capital to represent their interests.
Assets
Aside from the capital of Cambreath, Krezzym, the canton has fifteen major towns and dozens of small hamlets. The Tower of Gold stands to the north with the Mage's Guild located inside.
History
Cambreath is one of the original three cantons. Wupan, Cambreath, and Prunyth founded the Confederation after the Rape of Tilane. It is the birthplace of griffins, and while the beasts were magically created, they have taken the top slot of every level of the food web. Consequently, they are a symbol of the canton.
Demography and Population
The population of Cambreath is mostly human. A sizable population of halflings living in the Undercity System. Additionally, there are forest gnomes and manitari enclaves located in their own villages, separate from Cambreath but ultimately interested in upholding the canton's interests. Dwarves, elves, and especially greenskin expatriates can be found scattered around. Even more rare, dragonborn fleeing the genocidal wars on Shalor hide in places where they won't be bothered.
Territories
Cambreath controls territory twenty two days' march from east to west, and forty eight days' march from north to South. They nominally control the Barrier Mountains, but in practice they only actually control the southernmost pass.
Military
The Balatar Militia can reliably be called in defense of the canton from all fifteen major towns, and small contingents can be called from most of the minor settlements. Additionally, Krezym is the location of the Winged Hussars. A sizable force of Flagellants of Scarroh are encamped in the eastern reaches attempting to win back control of the lost cathedral of Fropicys
Religion
The Reverence of The Three Virgins is the most accepted religion. Demiurgery is the traditional religion, but their influence faded greatly almost immediately after their founding. Isolated cults dedicated to The Scoundrel and his subordinates exist scattered around. A few refugees from Shalor have erected shrines to Bahamut and Tiamat in out-of-the-way places.
Foreign Relations
Cambreath has mutual rivalries with Eldermeare and Northrealm, they're in a state of cold war with the goblins of the badlands, and they are on friendly terms with the canton to the south, Wupan. They have a traditional friendship with Prunyth and nothing has changed diplomatically, but the necropolitans tend to disturb the Cambren people.
Education
Cambreath's educational system is performed traditionally by the elders of a village too old for regular labor.
Infrastructure
The singular perennial tax expense that the disparate townships agree on are the roads. Everything else in Cambreath is generally built and owned by plutarchs or guilds.

Currency
Cambreath uses silver coinage as the basis of its currency like everyone else. Individual towns also use scrimshaw coinage made from bone to trade among themselves.
Major Exports
Cambreath is the only canton that can create Kadenium , and the only one with smiths that know how to work it into cloudmetal. There are several grains that grow best on the rolling hills, and muckterry is cultivated in the lowland swamps.
The main export, however, is fighting men and women. They hire themselves out as mercenaries and Turniptails to see the world, and often bring back booty and stories that will sustain them for the rest of their lives.
Legislative Body
The towns have their own Elector Council that meet in Krezzym at the outset of every month to negotiate the policies and legislative actions. More often than not, they get nothing done, which is generally what the Cambren people like.
