Demographics

Mostly human, middle to lower class. This district supplies Krezzym with the majority of its unskilled labor. The Prunyth embassy chooses to make its home here, so Undead servitors are sprinkled around.

Government

Streets vote on electors to neighborhoods, which vote on electors to the district's elector council. Edlers are appointed to solve problems, and a Sheriff is responsible for the security of the district, a monumental task in Downtown Proper.

Defences

The Sheriff has control of his own deputies and the City Watch of the area, and an established levy system to call up extra help for periods of unrest or fires. Such auxiliaries are often referred to as the Brute Squad.

Industry & Trade

The Undermarket attracts all sorts of attention, ranging from scions of aristocratic families to overly ambitious street toughs looking to upgrade their kit.

Infrastructure

Cobblestone streets, and drinking water is provided by cisterns that filter water from the Grasping River.

Districts

There is a cultural rivalry between the north and south sides of the district, though culturally they are indistinguishable by outsiders.

Assets

While the stores and markets are generally nondescript, Krezzym boasts a robust undermarket wherein nearly anything can be found. It is even rumored that a magic item auction occurs semi-regularly.

Guilds and Factions

The Prunyth Embassy sees a personal interest in the smooth running of the district, and exerts its influence to maintain the status quo. Struggling for prominence are two large street gangs, the Northside Nightingales and the Southside Snakes.

Points of interest

Hilda's Grave: An ancient column of crystal, placed to honor a local hero named Hilda.
The Thief's Mug: A large adventurer's tavern, said to be built atop the tomb of a demon.
The Shrine of Scarroh: a living tree carved and bent into the likeness of Scarroh, where the ears of criminals are to be nailed. The shrine is neglected and the remaining ears resembled jerky.
The Old Fire Shrine: A ring of broken black stone lies within an area of scorched earth. It was once a shrine placed to honor Ertalthen, Titan of Fire, but was destroyed by turniptails several years ago.

Tourism

The Undermarket brings interested parties, and those interested parties supply the cutpurses and backalley clubbers with their daily bread.

Architecture

Downtown Proper was at one time as affluent as Cloudgarden. Those days are long past, now, and the once white walls are caked in soot and worse, and the red tile roofs have degraded into a smudgy pinkish hue.
