Mistress Scarroh (a.k.a. Taskmistress)
"The flagellants paraded through the streets, whipping their own backs raw to pay for the sins of the city. The mayor had reneged on his promises to reclaim the Fropicys Cathedral, offending greatly the goddess of duty and honor, Scarroh. Her servants sought selflessly to purge the city of such perfidy, and their progress through the streets could be tracked in their blood as of a snail's slime trail. "In desperation, Mayor Horaldo ordered the town guard to break up the 'riot.' As soon as the flagellants saw the naked blades of the town guard, they went berserk, charging into the fray with flogging staves in one hand and hooked flails in the other. Though at the end of the day all of the flagellants lay butchered by the larger guard force, no guard was left without scarred faces and horrified souls. When the mayor ordered the hideously injured guards to seek treatment away from the city so as not to upset the populace, the guards defenestrated him and sought Scarroh's forgiveness by marching to the Fropicys Cathedral. It didn't matter that none of them walked out again, what mattered is that they fulfilled their duty. "Some other hero would have to finish the job." ~Bawler Tom Wiley, report to the Bounty Hunter's Lodge.

Scarroh has three holidays. The First of Newspring is Confessions, where celebrants reveal their guild for the last year. The Eighth of Newsummer is Condolences, a remembrance for those who died doing their duty. The Twelfth of Midwinter is Flaying, a time for reflecting on one's failures. Flagellants of Scarroh and similar organizations take this time to whip themselves, once for every sin committed over the last year.
