Chapel of Our Lady

"Our Lady honors contracts, unlike the fallen world! Our Lady has a plan for each of our souls, unlike the fallen Gods! Our Lady will prevail, unlike the Fallen Hope!"   ~Nereia Zazerac, priestess of Glasya

Purpose / Function

The Chapel of Our Lady is a shrine dedicated to a secretive Cult of Glasya. It serves as a meeting site, safehouse, and sacrificial shrine to the Princess of Hell

Design

The actual room is an oval 110x80 feet. The sloping corridor is a spiral that loops 8 times and descends 150 feet. The whole structure is cut into the living bedrock beneath Krezzym, and around the Bones of Barokaz. Professional decorators involved in the cult were tapped to furnish the place with draperies and furniture, and every part of it is carefully planned either according to the principles of thaumaturgeometry or the latest fashions.

Entries

There is one entrance; through the "Throat of Barokaz."   [section: secret]   There is a secret exit; an illusory wall behind the statue leads directly into the river. The enchantments that hold the river back and maintain the spell also bless any sworn vassal of Glasya that passes through it with the ability to breathe water for three hours and gives them a swim speed of 30 ft. Anyone else that passes through fails to receive this enchantment and is swept away by the river.   [/secret]

Sensory & Appearance

The chapel smells of incense, perfume, orgies, and blood. These smells combine into a cloying miasma that can cause nausea.   The place is lit with a theatrical ambiance, magic balls of light hover strategically to enhance the shadows and geometry of the room. The color design seems actually professionally rendered; the dark colors are crushed and enhanced by design and artifice, and the reds and purples are lit by an eerie glow. The whole effect is to inspire awe.   All sounds are louder in the chapel, and even a low speaking voice can be heard from one end to the other. This is not a magical effect, it's part of the clever design of the stone. Additionally, no sound escapes the room, preventing the screams of victims from alerting those above.   With the exception of the dark altar, the stones and wall hangings are rounded, designed to illicit a sensuous feel in every surface. In the larger orgies, it is even sometimes difficult to tell the difference between the writhing bodies and the decor.

Denizens

The Cult of Glasya owns the Chapel and performs their profane rituals there.   For brief periods of time, Erinye servants of Glasya are summoned to perform specific tasks to aid the cult members in advancing themselves or punishing their allies.

Contents & Furnishings

The whole chapel is built from the living rock beneath Krezzym, as well as from the bones of Barokaz.   A darkstone altar stands just past the center of the room, stained with the blood of many sacrifices.   A few paces behind the altar stands a raised dais with a podium. From behind this podium, all sound is amplified by the design of the room which drowns out all other sounds.   Looming behind the podium and anyone speaking at it is the Statue of the Princess, which holds the Eyes of the Princess to observe the various rites and sacrifices of the cult.

Valuables

The Eyes of the Princess reside in the statue. A wooden chest is kept that contains four vials of oil and one vial of alchemist's fire. It holds the last fortnight's goods and gear from sacrificial victims, usually around 2d100 GP in silver as well as clothing and other goods.

Hazards & Traps

The statue itself is a flesh golem crafted from the remains of the most beautiful sacrificial victims. It is covered in a thin gold leaf and set to activate if the eyes are removed and kill everyone in the chapel.

Special Properties

Sound is amplified in the room but cannot escape it. The whole interior is also a tainted place.

Architecture

The Chapel is entered through the hollowed out titan skull in the center of Krezzym. It extends down a spiral shaft until it nestles in the deeply buried hipbones. The walls are propped up and entirely covered in bones of sacrifices.   The main room is lavishly furnished, also with the bones of victims, and a podium carved from one of the titanic's vertebra is perfectly positioned to be heard throughout the structure.   Behind the podium is a beautiful nude statue of Glasya made from bone, gold and jewels. In front of the statue is a Darkstone altar. A complex and arcane design of marble trenches surround the altar, stained dark with sacrificial blood.

History

Clan Zazerac learned of the true identity of Agasyl from the long dead titan. In response, the progenitors of the clan saw an opportunity and set about studying ways to contact her.   Through profane rituals, they learned how to build a perfect temple to her and set about doing so in mimicry of her skull palace on Malbolge. During certain times and rituals, they can communicate with her through the statue, and it has been with her guidance and their sacrifice that they have become such a wealthy family.

Environmental Effects
On an initiative of 20, every character has a 5%+their Charisma modified of attracting the attention of Glasya herself. She is aware of everything that happens inside the room, though she might not actually notice it.   Additionally, as an area of Taint, the building has a chance to cause any magic cast within to go awry (according to the chart.) However, Glasya herself has veto power over this effect, and it goes off only if it serves her purposes.
