Castle Creche Settlement in Kobos | World Anvil

Castle Creche

"The mansions of Castle Creche have an unusual architectural feature: their tiled roofs are the red teracotta of most of the city, but painted white and reinforced with steel. For all of the advantages of living in the shadow of the aerie of the Griffon Knights, some accommodations must be made. On the upside, the private gong farmers of the wealthy generate even more income by selling griffon scat to local alchemists."   ~Grandmaster Jeren, of the Golden Tower.

Demographics

The district is populated by the most wealthy and well connected. While the vast majority of the permanent residents are humans, there are also embassies from Doroinir Nimloth, the Ley Empire of Gnomekin, and Karakadaw. "Exotic" servants such as ogrish bodyguards, undead butlers, and imp servitors are also used to show that extra piece of opulence.

Government

Only landowners of the district are allowed to vote on representatives for the Elector Council. A Sheriff oversees the city watch in the area. Otherwise, each landowner is generally responsible for funding the roads and infrastructure immediately surrounding their land.

Assets

A small market caters to servants buying spices and pricey finished goods for their employers.

Points of interest

The Whispering Bed, a sprawling yet exclusive upscale bawdy house, stands on the northeast end of the bridge to Suthbredge.   The gates of Highwall are an impressive architectural feat and decorated with bas reliefs of a hundred battle scenes. Next to it hangs the Gibbet of Immortality.   Thalwo's Clocks, an expert clockmaker who supplies the wealthy with pocketwatches so they can always be fashionably late.   The Shrine of Bliyet: A bronze statue of Bliyet, lord of breeding and destiny, surrounded by a neglected garden.   The Marching Courthouse: An ornate building of stone walls, filled with busy magistrates and advocates. Seat of the Elector Council

Tourism

While it is necessary to pass through the district if attending court or council meetings, tourism is generally frowned upon in the area and loiterers are typically shuffled off. The exception is those visiting the Whispering Bed, which stands on the road just inside the district from Suthbredge.

Architecture

Most buildings in the district are alabaster and stone framed buildings with red tiled rooftops painted in white splotches or stripes. There is also a tradition of changing the nonstructural facades of these buildings to reflect the current fad, typically an interpretation of an exotic culture's aesthetic.

Geography

The district physically slope upwards towards Highwall, providing a physical hierarchy that matches the social one.

Natural Resources

Griffon scat from the beasts that fly to and from the aerie is collected and sold to alchemists.
