Hospita

Some would argue that of all the Divines of the world, Hospita is the most petitioned, with her divine domain over medicine and healing meaning that almost all members of the mortal races have asked for her intercession at one point or another when a friend or relation is sick or dying. Though she would not upset the natural balance of things through the reckless preservation of life, Hospita endeavours to ease suffering and allow the members of the mortal races to live as long and full a life as possible.

Common Worshippers

Whilst healers, doctors, herbalists and apothecaries worship Hospita regularly, most people will pray to Hospita when they or someone they care about is afflicted by an illness or injury. Most often, Hospita will be petitioned when someone is close to death, with the hope that she will intervene and save a soul from their end, be it untimely or not.

Priesthood

Hospita has a large body of priests who serve her, driven by a desire to ease the sufferings of the world. Most of her clergy train and then reside at one of her temples, where they then go on to work in the temples’ attached infirmaries. However, some clerics of Hospita choose to go out into the wider world, acting as itinerant healers, or serving a set number of smaller communities within a locale, which are not large enough to support a temple of Hospita on their own.

Temples

There are many temples dedicated to Hospita, all of which have integrated within them large hospital facilities dedicated to the treatment of anyone, sick or injured, who would come through their doors. However, as temples of Hospita are generally rather large, they are predominantly only found in large towns or cities, where they can be sustained in their necessary, but expensive work through donations and monetary aid from the local community.   Most temples of Hospita also have facilities for training others, including those who simply wish to be healers and herbalists rather than clerics of Hospita, in the arts of healing and medicine.

Activities in the Divine War

Like the other members of the Adelfotita, Hospita has remained neutral in the Divine War.

Divine Links & Progeny

She is the daughter of Gallena.   She is the sister of Breseis, Josmorra & Empnefsi.   Hospita is a member of the alliance of Divines known as the Adelfotita.

Mortal Creations

Whilst Hospita is not thought to be responsible for the creation of any sapient species or fauna, she is regarded as being the creator of many medicinal herbs and plants that grow on the material plane. It is said that she created such things to aid those who wished to practice the art of healing, but who had no access to healing through arcane or divine means.
