Summercamp 2021

Diamond or die!

Post-event thoughts

I did it! I actually managed to write 31 prompts in a month and I'm super proud of what I've managed to accomplish. While not every piece is great, all of them contribute to some part of my world and can actually be used to add extra details ones I get to DM in this world again. I also figured I will actually go on with writing about Kaigan and add more information to that world as I'm starting to like it more and more the more I add to it ^^.   The middle part didn't go so well though, which made the ending a bit of a sprint to actually finish. Appearantly I can only write with some ominous deadline instead of actually do a little every day. I maybe should add 30 minutes or so of worldbuilding to my daily routine, at least that is something to think about after summer break once I will actually get into a routine again.

Pre-event thoughts

Okay, maybe not the pledge page everyone expected as it does not look similar at all, but I'm working with a limited amount of articles here as cheap Freeman, and now I actually see my pledge everytime I update my articles, instead of only when I manually look it up (which I will guarantee will happen a grand total of 0 times). And now this sidebar actually gets some use as an added bonus

The plan

Write one article with a minimum of 300 words for each prompt. This includes minimal formatting and no making or looking for pictures and what not as I'm way more interested in the actual writing than scouring google or cursing photoshop for hours on end.   Since I will be on summer break for the entire month this should be doable, especially looking back at how I did last WA with the prompts and the amount of words. For the first weekend I will be computer-less so I will brainstorm the first ten prompts, making the writing of those easier when I come back, but otherwise count me in for a month of hanging around in Discord way too much.

Practical stuff

So what am I working on? Everything that sounds cool! After brainstorming a bit I started designing a space adventure world which will be my main focus, for those interested the world primer is linked. As a backup, as I'm not sure if I can manage 31 prompts in 1 month in an unknown world and unknown genre, I have the remnants of my WE world I can use for inspiration as that still has a lot of loose ends that are interesting.   I'm planning to get writing done in the morning or most likely more early afternoon to leave the afternoon and evening free for other holiday stuff, but we'll see when inspiration strikes.   Looking back at last WE, I'll probably hang out in the WA discord for most of my time as that was lots of fun last year. Besides that I roped my boyfriend into joining Summercamp as well to expand his world so that will also be a great motivator this time around.

Good luck! I really like that you've combined your pledge with your progress article. It looks really good. :)

Thank you! I think it's way more fun to see the whole of a competition when looking back and this is way easier than creating 3 different documents and then some overview document that ties those all together.

I like the combination, too! I decided to combine mine now as well :P

Good luck! And writing from the perspective of an alien species sounds fascinating. I'll have to check out your world primer next! :)
