Mistletoe

As one of the most important material components for a particular spell, mistletoe is a very sought after plant within the magic community. To feed the whole population, especially after years of bad harvests, mistletoe is used to create magical food that provides enough nutrients to survive.

Location

While mistletoe has a high demand, it is not found in many places as it only grows in very specific trees that are not found in many places across Kaigan. The most prevalent place mistletoe is found in large quantities, is in a small forest near Amarat. Amarat, and the forest, is located in the north of Kaigan and north of the mountains where Rasvich is located.
Within the Berry Forest, as the people in Amarat have called it for the abundance mistletoe, most trees have bunches of mistletoe in their tree canopies, creating almost a full canopies with small bunches of green plants. Along most of the trunks of trees that regularly produce mistletoe, ropes dangle down to make it easier and safer for the climbers to get to the top of the tree.

Harvesting

The gathering of mistletoe is a town-wide affair because of the high demand and the height at which it grows. First the usable mistletoe is identified and the younger, nimble workers in Amarat will climb to the top of the tree to gather the mistletoe. When they cut down a bunch of mistletoe, they will call down to notify the catchers, before dropping the bunch. The catchers are standing underneath the tree with a large sheet that is used to catch the falling bunches, often in either pairs when it is around a smaller tree or a group of four for larger trees.
Once the mistletoe is gathered from the tree and safely, it is collected together and transported to Amarat in small carts. Workers in Amarat cut down the bunches of mistletoe into usable sprigs and place these individual sprigs into the drying chamber to preserve the mistletoe before it is transported across Kaigan.
