Temple of Souls

Most known for its job as collection place of the death, the Temple of Souls is also a place for healing of the poor and misfortunate. The Temple of Souls is the building that houses the religious order that worships the god of Souls, the deity that rules over life, death and fate.

Architecture

Outside

A Temple of Souls is often quickly recognised inside a city as the architecture does not differ much between temples in different cities. It is often a two story building, made from cheap and easily accessible materials such as wood or stone, painted black with a slightly slanted roof. Only in large cities the Temple of Souls will exceed the two story height. Windows only appear on the upper story, leaving the first floor with only blank, undecorated walls. The front of the building has a large front door with a small ramp that makes it easy for Death collector Collector carts to be pushed inside the building. There is also a small backdoor that is used for residents of the Temple of Souls.

Inside

Walking in through the front entrance will lead to the main room. This room spans the whole width of the building and half of the length. The inside is dark and only lit by small candelabras in each corner of the room. In the middle of the room is a space for the Death Collectors cart to be placed with a small table next to it that holds a large shallow bowl in which there is a constant trickle of holy water from the ceiling.   The back room is divided into a couple of small rooms and holds resources for daily living such as a kitchen, pantry and washing room. Besides that there is a small hospital room to treat patients that cannot pay for general practitioners or city hospitals.   There are also stairs to both the upper and lower floor. The building always has a cellar, this can be accessed by either using the lift mechanism in the main room or via the stairs located in the back room. The cellar is a holding place for bodies after they are threated to prevent necromancy and possession.   The upper floor holds sleeping quarters for both the priests and priestesses as well as others that work in or with the Temple of Souls. There is also a second small hospital wing for employees of the Temple of Souls.

Location

In almost every town or city that has more than one temple of worship, a Temple of Souls can be found as that is often the first temple that is build in a city. These temples are often build in the poorest districts that are still considered to be within city limits.

This is a very interesting article! It seems like an eerie place to work. I wouldn't work here, but it's still quite interesting regardless! Great work. :D

I'm quite happy to read your work! It's really well-written and imaginative. :D And that's true, the work does need to be done by someone, even if it's not nice work!
