Copperheads
The people of Coppergulch Harborage, better known as Coppertown, are generally called Copperheads, and live within their small village inside The Crack.
Magic storms
The daily life of people in Coppertown is dictated by the unpredictability of the Crack. At any moment a magic storm can form from the residual magic still lingering in the Crack. While most of these storms either stay in the south of the Crack, or move towards that area, it is not unheard of that these magic storm hit Coppertown. When one of these storms nears Coppertown, a loud airhorn alarm sounds throughout the rift, signaling any Copperheads to get inside quickly.
Stormwatchers
This alarm is sounded by Stormwatchers, one of the most boring, but at the same time most important and stressful jobs within Coppertown. Besides magical storms, Stormwatchers also keep an eye on the terrain above the Crack for any storms that come from sea. There is a network of watch posts setup all around the upper and lower perimeter of Coppertown as well as on the southern side where Stormwatchers spend their shifts. These watch posts are connected to the rest of Coppertown only by internal routes and they are extra protected on the outside.Daily life
Most of he daily life of Copperheads is spend inside the large dug out network of tunnels and rooms inside the earth. It is quite common for Copperheads to not go outside, either into the Crack or to the surface, for days on end. Everything needed for daily life is build inside the earth from living quarters to communal buildings and even whole farms.
There are some houses that extend out into the Crack, but these are sparse and often heavily fortified to protect against storms, only having small windows to provide views outside for those who need it.
Lawless town
The people of Coppertown have no general governing body, but determine all laws and common ideas via a town meeting with a majority vote. This leaves Coppertown without a predefined law, but with a set of very strong ideals and morals that are seen as common knowledge. Undermining this common knowledge will guarantee a town meeting to determine any actions that need to be taken.
One of the most notable common knowledge is that something is communual if there is no name on it. So people in Coppertown write their name on everthing that is in their idea theirs. It is also common knowledge that is something already has a name, it is not permitted to change it without the permission of that person. Off course it is also common knowledge that this rule excludes people, although this has lead to the custom of tattooing each others name in the marriage ceremony.
