WorldEmber 2019
The Fires Begin to Burn
Overview
The WorldEmber
A hush falls over Isekai as the morning of Winter's Evening breaks, marking the first day of something that stretches far beyond the plane that this world rests on. An event like no other stretches across hundreds of planes, permeating worlds full of all manner of people, creatures, horrors. None of them are like Isekai, none of them celebrate or hide away from this the same way that those of Isekai do. As the morning of the first day of Winter's Evening dawns, the fires are lit, signaling that the WorldEmber has arrived. The fires burn for the length of Winter's Evening, marking a celebration of storytelling. But only the bravest, most courageous, or the ones that lack sanity participate in this marathon of stories. It is not for the faint of heart, as the stories of old and of new with alight the sky with their words until the fires of Winter's Morning have burned down to their last ember. The Fires of Winter's Evening
As the bright day of the first of Winter's Evening slowly drifts into the cold of the evening, fires alight, casting their glow on covered bodies and curious faces. The shadows on the edge of the fires' glow remain cold as the brightness of the white snow is cast dark while the soaked earth below the flame is revealed. All have gathered around the fires of Winter's Evening, all have gathered to hear the tales of the WorldEmber. Other places and planes may hide from the light shed by the fires or they may celebrate in their own way, but the lands of Isekai celebrate with tales, endless stories of the barren and fertile landscape that had survived a cataclysm of divine proportions only a few centuries before. The people gather to hear stories of long-lost civilizations, of places their feet will never rest. As the fires of Winter's Morning erase the snow and cold of the depths of winter, the people that hear the stories alight with a new fire. What of Isekai?
When the sun sets on the last day of Winter's Noon, shaman, storytellers, and bards of all sorts begin their preparations. Their time in the spotlight has come, as they prepare tales of old and tales of things that have not yet come to fully pass. The world of Isekai almost goes silent, everyone stopping to listen to the tales that these storytellers will bring to the cold months. The cold skies of the northern continent alight with the flames of the storytellers' circle in places across the landscape. A month of celebration and reflection has begun. Those of the southern continent stray far away from the affair, hiding in dens and caves away from the glow of the north. The exotic and much more animalistic races of the south have no need for stories and myths. Only the north feels the need to fill the air with the sounds of their lore.Reaching Spring's Morning
As long as a single story is told to completion, the fires of Winter's Evening have served their purpose. But those that wish to celebrate the WorldEmber fully participate every day, filling the skies with stories from sunrise to sunset, bringing forth thousands of words for all to hear. Some of these stories are the polished work of elder storytellers, colored with age and experience while others bring much to the imagination but contain little fact like the fledgling stories of younglings. In the days of the WorldEmber with the fires of Winter's Evening burning bright, even the short, stuttered stories of the younglings are held in great revere with those of the elders. It does not matter how the story is conveyed or if the words flow like rivers into the great lake, as long as stories ring through the air, Spring's Morning is within reach.Reaching Spring's Morning
Goal: To reach 200,000 words in the world by year's end (roughly 50,000 words needed)
You can do it!
