Apprentice Rune Mage

Beginner Rune Mages

Another rune carefully etched into a soft material fizzles as a young girl attempts to cast a spell from it. A glass pendant shatters as a boy cuts too deep with his tools as he attempts to carve a delicate rune in its surface. The art of enchanting script is delicate work, one that takes years of practice to master. But all Rune Mages must start somewhere. They must serve as apprentices to master enchanters and learn the craft before they are allowed to dabble in the arts of enchanting weapons and items to great effect.   Apprentices start with basic tasks, such as learning how to add spells to simple reference objects. Hours are spent learning languages and the motions of their characters, expanding the pool of runes that the Rune Mage can use to record their spells and enchantments. For many of the first years in a Rune Mage's apprenticeship, it is spent in old libraries and classrooms, studying like scholars and understand the world and magic around them. When it seems their studies have begun to slow, that is when they begin to learn the tools that will aid their trade. Whether that be leatherworking, smithing, jewelry, or other crafts, these skills will benefit the rune mage for the length of their practice.   Once some proficiency has been reached with tools and languages, the apprentice then moves on to etching and beginning the practice of enchanting. These projects are small, not meant for others outside of the apprentice and the master that teaches them. From here, it is up to the apprentice to learn and grow, showcasing their skill and learning more so that they may reach the level of master Rune Mage like their teacher.
