Obsidic

Language of the Obsidea

This is the most iconic language of those that live within the great seas of Isekai and is thought to be the language that all others under the water stem from. Speakers of this language range widely but it is chiefly spoken by Obsidea and other aquatic races or those that live on the Zóni and make their living by sailing the high seas. The script for Obsidic is made in an interesting fashion, instead of using a pen or brush those that are familiar with the written aspect of the language know that it is best made by using the entire hand to make a single letter in one motion with most of the fingers engaged.   The earliest appearance of this language is traced back to the appearance of Obsidea in the deep seas of Isekai. The Triton language provides the basis by which all the other aquatic languages can be understood, the sound and words for it are more easily pronounced underwater. Volume and tone hold little value in pronouncing various words in Obsidic which justifies the fact that Obsidea often speak in a mono-toned manner when they adopt other languages. The important aspects of Obsidic lie in body language, motions, and where you are looking when you say certain things because they change the context of the speech. The script is straightforward but usually takes time for some to learn well because of how the letters are made, each in an instant with ink on paper or in a soft material like sand. This language has a presence along most coastal areas, islands, and throughout the entire ocean as a respected and standard language to speak. Most scholarly documents and ancient writings found on underwater structures will hold the script of the Obsidic language, to include those that are found in the parts of the ocean that are permanently darkened by virtue of their depth.   The advantages of speaking this language are tied to your involvement in the coast, sailing, and exploring the vast oceans of Isekai. If you speak this language then it is likely that most civilized races under the waters will at least be able to get the vague meaning of what you are trying to say and they will regard you as an experienced traveler. Writing this language in a proficient manner is a way to gain respect among the Obsidean society as many non-native writers go about it in a way that Obsidea will call slow, uneducated and too careful. Many times the slow writing of the Obsidic script will annoy a Obsidea and cause them to take over the writing or rather have it written in a language that the writer is more knowledgable in. The mispronunciation of Obsidic is usually carried out through body language and through where the speaker's gaze follows, Obsidea will have no qualms about correcting or clarifying this speech or asking you to switch to a language that you know how to speak.

Hahaha, the impatience of them when dealing with a non-native speaker who perhaps gets a few things wrong is great. I love the description of how the letters are formed too.
