Most of the residents of the Coralous Union are the descendants of the original settlers of the island (or were part of the settlement itself, for longer lived races). The homeland, a small kingdom on the coast called Ebronium, was a
human kingdom that had thrived on coastal trade. While all races lived peacefully within the kingdom, more humans found their way to Coralous during the colonization and subsequent refugee settlement. Because of this, by the time the vessels stopped, and contact with Ebronium was lost, humans outnumbered other races in the colony by nearly half. Since then, the shorter lifespans and faster reproduction rate of humans and
halflings has kept them the most populous peoples in the Union, while
dwarves,
gnomes, and
elves, only in their second generation, are relatively uncommon by comparison.
Half-Elf citizens, as a result, are somewhat more populous than their elven parents, but significantly less common than their fully human brethren.
Additionally, only a small number of
half-orcs ever crossed the ocean with the settlers, making them the smallest demographic of people in the Union. Since there are no known orc tribes on the island, the orc bloodline can only be continued by two existing half-orcs having a child. Unsurprisingly, their presence on the island has been dwindling since the very start, and only a few dozen are even expected to live scattered around the settlements.
Finally, the settlers of the Union have had one strange addition to their numbers, albeit in exceedingly small numbers:
lizardfolk. While most lizardfolk on the islands were hostile, or at least aggressively disinterested towards the settlers, some of the smaller tribes in the west banded together with the Union. They stay almost exclusively in their marshland homes, although, on rare occasions, some do visit the more urban settlements, like Arboris or Nettle Lake. They never cross the Coralous River, however, for fear of treading into the lands of their less open-minded brethren.
