Calass'coris Tribe

A small tribe of ahh'rasha'kak lizardfolk who live in the Esperian Wetlands. They have good relations with the Coralous Union despite still holding a relatively isolationist lifestyle, and sometimes greet travelers in their lands.

Structure

Like most lizardfolk tribes around the Union, the tribe is ruled by a single chief, who is selected by the council of elders when the previous chief is deemed unfit to continue ruling. The council of elders serves as a check on the chief's power in situations where the tribe's welfare is considered at risk, but in most cases, the chief has ultimate control over the tribe during their reign.

History

The Calass'coris tribe has existed as a group of mainland dwelling ahh'rasha'kak for centuries. Territorial wars against their nass'isra neighbors kept them small, and they often relied on retreating back to Lake Esperia when threatened with overwhelming force, being better attuned to aqutic fighting and survival than the stronger and more numerous nass'isra tribes. When the colonists first arrived on Coralous Island, little changed for the Calass'coris, and they paid the soft-skinned settlers little mind. Over time, however, the nass'isra came into more and more conflicts with the newcomers on the island, taking much of the attention off of the small tribe of ahh'rasha'kak. Seeing this change, the Calass'coris started seeing the settlers as a valuable potential ally, eventually siding with them during the Lizardfolk Wars. In the aftermath of the war, the Calass'coris found their local rivals destroyed, and while they, like all of the other lizardfolk tribes, rejected the offer to join the Coralous Union itself, they were granted control over the Esperian Wetlands, and struck up a deal wherein the Union would compensate them in trade goods for their efforts to keep the roads from Haven to Esperia and Veradil clear of dangerous and obstacles.
