Halis'allah Tribe

The largest tribe among the ahh'rasha'kak lizardfolk, the Halis'allah people live isolated on an island in northeastern Lake Esperia. Reserved by nature, the Halis’allah mainly keep to themselves despite repeated attempts by the residents of Esperia and Veradil to bring them closer into the fold with the people of Coralous.   This political distance is simply a measure of self-preservation, according to the tribesman, who seek to preserve their lands and culture without being overwhelmed by the growing influence of the settlers from the Union.

Structure

Like most lizardfolk tribes around the Union, the tribe is ruled by a single chief, who is selected by the council of elders when the previous chief is deemed unfit to continue ruling. The council of elders serves as a check on the chief's power in situations where the tribe's welfare is considered at risk, but in most cases, the chief has ultimate control over the tribe during their reign.

Foreign Relations

After allying against their own kind in The Lizardfolk Wars decades ago, they have come to a peaceful understanding with the residents of the Coralous Union, and live in cooperation with their mainland allies. There is some trade and political contact between the tribesmen and the settlers on the mainland, however, most of that contact is conducted through mediators and most tribesmen never venture more than a day or two inland from the coast of Lake Esperia. In very rare cases some members of the tribe end up leaving the island for long periods of time, occasionally for years, or even decades. These lizardfolk often end up integrating themselves fully into the settlements where they live, usually losing contact with their more traditionalist brethren.   Among the settlers, the residents of Veradil and Esperia are thought of most highly, thanks largely in part to sharing the same habitats and pastimes, particularly those on the waters of Lake Esperia. Since the Halis'allah are a semi-amphibious people, they have never had any need for boats, being able to hold their breath and swim comfortably for miles at a time, though they find the sailing vessels of their more land-bound neighbors to be quite intriguing. It is common to see younger members of the tribe watching these curiosities sail about on the lake, both enraptured and entertained by the concept.   Unsurprisingly the other lizard-folk tribes with close contact to the Halis’allah also tend to be those in closest proximity to the tribal lands. These include both the heavily isolationist Vass'anasss Tribe to the west of the lake, and the nature-worshipping Fah'ssa'sn Tribe, in the marshlands to the southeast.

Agriculture & Industry

The Halis’allah lizardfolk mostly live a traditional life of fishing, hunting, and foraging on their island home, very much like their ancestors from the pre-settlement era.
