Vass'anasss Tribe

The Vass’anasss tribe have always been more isolationist then the majority of their fellow tribes. As such, very little is known of these residents of Darkbough Forest. Most of the other lizardfolk tribes make no mention of their westerly kin, and only a handful of learned individuals in the Coralous Union even know of their existence.
However, because of the recent introduction of Coralous residents into the Darkbough Forest, the reclusive tribe has has found themselves thrust into the center of several major archeological discoveries previously hidden within their lands. While they were originally way to the point of near hostility of the intruders in their lands, the adventurers proved themselves as worthy allies, and the previous policy of isolationism has begun to give way to a more open and cooperative one. This has been seen no more clearly than with the The Red Blade Outkasts, who managed to win over the tribal leadership with their heroic efforts on behalf of the Vass'anasss people and were awarded the title of "friend" from the chief himself, an honor never before bestowed upon non-lizardfolk.

Structure

Like most lizardfolk tribes around the Union, the tribe is ruled by a single chief, who is selected by the council of elders when the previous chief is deemed unfit to continue ruling. The council of elders serves as a check on the chief's power in situations where the tribe's welfare is considered at risk, but in most cases, the chief has ultimate control over the tribe during their reign.

Territories

Their homeland in the Darkbough Forest, provides both a rich bounty and endless danger for the tribesmen, as they are surrounded by boundless miles of dangerous game and succulent flora. As a result, the Vass’anasss are dangerous warriors and skilled hunters, fiercely protective of hearth and home.

Foreign Relations

Removed from the bulk of the other indigenous lizardfolk, they have long found themselves surrounded by enemies and inhospitable terrain but continue to stubbornly hold on to their ancestral lands, fighting for territory against the hostile forest itself. They have long had allies in the Halis'allah Tribe of Lake Esperia, but the distance between the two, both geographically and socially, has made them somewhat estranged. The Vass'anasss also had a minor trade agreement with the Anasss'gura people which ended tragically when the Deep Forest dwellers were suddenly wiped out.
Almost no contact has been made between the residents of the Coralous Union, and the Vass'anasss. So little is known about each other, in fact, that many within the tribe and the Union are unaware that the other exists. The Vass’anasss are happy to keep things this way, however, as they see dealing with these new settlers as an undesired distraction from the much more important daily struggle to survive.

The Bregaran Exit Expedition Team and Red Blade Outkasts became party to another group of lizardfolk living in the Darkbough Forest called the Anasss'gura Tribe, who existed as a splinter of tribe of the Vass'anasss. The tribes maintained a "live-and-let-live" distance from each other, comfortable to leave each other in peace as distant bretheren, until a terrible tragedy struck the Anasss'gura, all but wiping them out. The survivors were eventually escorted back to the Vass'anasss and reintegrated themselves into their sister-tribe, once more becoming a single people.
