The Fall of New Coralous

A sudden and unexpected assault from the depths of the sea that laid low the capital of the Coralous colony, the sahugain fell upon New Coralous in a vicious nocturnal assault. Most of the city's residents were slain in the confusion of the attack, before the defenders could be fully mustered, and city was abandoned by the survivors in the span of a single terrible evening. The following days saw more and more widespread violence against the settlers until not a single seaside settlement remained intact.

Outcome

The city of New Coralous was completely lost, including nearly all of the citizenry in the area. Additionally, while the name applies most pertinently to the fall of the old capital itself, it is also used to refer to the massacre of other seaside settlements in the days following the initial strike, which claimed the lives of hundreds more settlers. Nearly every seafaring vessel was lost, completely destroying any hope of returning to the mainland.

Aftermath

Faith in the nobility and government established by the mainland was lost, and while some of the nobles managed to escape with their lives, the citizenry since refused to acknowledge their right to rule, instead turning to smaller, self-created governments.
In the end, the people of Coralous completely abandoned any settlements by the ocean and moved inland to escape the constant ravages of the sahuagin raiders. Because of this mass resettlement, many of the smaller cities found themselves flush with skilled laborers, and the rural municipalities grew into much more urban settings within a few months, setting the stage for the birth of the Coralous Union.
