Ship-Builder
Sure, you could get one of those standard ships off of the CHG itself (it's kind of got a thing where it seized a large portion of the means of production when it came to power and so there are a lot of government-owned, aiming-for-profit companies because of the The CHG-UHN War ) or a Megacorp but one is a government that likes to be stingey and the other is a megacorp that also likes to be stingey. If you want quality and for your specific needs to be met, you'd best get into some conversations with a ship-builder.
These bois and gorls are masters of architectural planning (you've got to be in that ship, most likely with other people, for weeks if not months at a time), 3D puzzles (making sure the exhaust port is actually linked to the fusion reactor... bad things happen if it isn't) and, most importantly, specialism.
Career
Qualifications
If you wanna get technical you only need a Bronze Ship Builder's license but many clients will want to get their services from someone who passed the tests with Silver or Gold.
Career Progression
It requires years of training to become one, before which you already need to be a master engineer.
Payment & Reimbursement
Tonnes of money from those paying for the ship, as well as them usually providing the resources you use. Every time there's a war you can also get yourself government contracts that pay far more per ship, even if they're really hard work and you're often not given the option of NOT building ships.
Other Benefits
Pretty much every ship-builder has their own ship - which is great for travelling, regardless of the reason for travel. Ship builder's are also greatly respected for their importance to the running of basically everything from war to inter-planetary trade (which means bonus respect from those on arid worlds that rely on food imports) to providing holidays for the rich.
Perception
Purpose
Making space ships, which are essential for all sorts of cool things - most interestingly-for-you-because-I-know-you're-a-servant-of-Khorne war.
Demographics
Around 0.1%. Keep in mind that almost everyone moves between planets at some point, such as for pilgrimages to The biggest place of worship in all of humanity .
History
Well the first humans to be building space ships were doing so in the 1800s but they didn't really work until the Space Race between the USA and Russia. As for the way it is in the modern CHG, that begun during the 6 Nations Period when governments were so desperate to fling their populations into the newly conquered planets that they let private companies do it, whomst hired many of the earliest ship-builders.
As technology, ship size, speed and demand have all improved, ships have been being copied and pasted with machines for mass-purpose by megacorps (mostly to transport their own products) and the CHG but the need for specialized ships is still very present.
Operations
Tools
It's basically a set of giant 3D printers and some robotniks that put all the things together with various tools of their own to form ship "skeletons", being the hull, engine and support structures (wiring is inside these). Then the floors and rooms within, with the need for access to the engine being kept in mind, are planned out on simulators before being put in. So far, it's made mostly of steel or titanium. Finally, things like wood MIGHT be put over the floors for the comfort of those within them. A computer put within it relays commands to any parts of the ships so that pilots may control them.
Materials
Titanium, extremely strong steel, silver for wiring, possibly uranium for engines (this is viewed similarly to using leaded petrol and for good reason) or hydrogen for fusion, strontium and, if you're really paying them a lot, dark matter. If you're throwing in some weapons then they're gonna need even more hydrogen for plasma cannons or for fusion for lasers.
Workplace
Each ship builder has their own massive factory. I'm talking bigger than most small blocks of flats. Maybe a UK school building.
Provided Services
They're generally able to hire cleaners and manual labourers, even if they're usually the ones going in when the robot that's meant to be doing it has run out of battery. Most will have at least 1 apprentice who end up having to carry out many menial tasks such as alcoholic-coffee-making.
Dangers & Hazards
Some parts of ships can be dangerous, such as weapons. One never knows when one's robotniks are gonna start developing feelings and a sense of violent dignity.
Alternative Names
Ship-Master, Shipper (yes, it has 3 meanings in this world), Ship Constructor (but only those trying to sound intelligent use that, regardless of how intelligent they actually are), Space-Wackle-Shooter

Demand
*laughs in literally never being short of work due to how small the portion of the population that can do it is and there always being demand for specialized ships*
Legality
60% of the time, it is every time.
