Indian Republics

Well well well if India didn't end up owning the Southern Middle East, Somalia, the South West half of Indochina and about half of those islands between Australia and Indochina after kicking Goner ass in those locations. Well done India. I'm proud of you. May having almost all of your movies be musicals never stop being a thing.

Pakistan: *is now property of India again when it wants to run itself*

Also Pakistan: *also wants a united humanity because aliens*

Pakistan: *extremely confused but still very extreme anger*

Structure

Okay so: every region gets itself a "democratically elected" (*twitches in cheating democracy through gerrymandering and using mafia-like organisations to threaten locals at the very voting booths while guards are bribed to do nothing*) Mayor.

Mysteriously, however, you will find far less people in each Indian region than a non-Indian region in the Indian Republics: which results in the vote of the average Indian counting for 6x more than that of a non-Indian in the Indian Republics. This combines with India having an utterly bonkers population for some... interesting results.

Anyway, these Mayors control local things as well as serve in an equivalent to a Parliament (they will often hire someone to do that "local running of things" bizz) where the Prime Minister serves as a head of government while the President is head of state (both are separately voted for by the Mayors). The thing is that the Prime Minister is almost always the leader of the party that holds the most seats (as members of the party will vote for them) at the same time as being able to influence those who decide the borders, mergers and splittings of regions through the fact that the Prime Minister can fire any one of these individuals at any time, while being able to ensure they get no pension, or can give them a pay rise at any time. Therefore: even when only 5% of the population supports the party that won the last election, that party might still be able to weasel its way around winning the current one anyway.

Public Agenda

"Beat back aliens until they make a peace deal with us, get a bigger population" -> "Genocide lizard aliens, oh no we have too much population"

Assets

Lots of people. Roughly equal on the resource standing to the US, United Commonwealth, Russian Federation, Scandinavian Union and Oriental Empire. Tonnes of people. Better food production gear than everyone else. Crap Tonnes of people.

History

Here we go:

India survives the 1st Goner Invasion and then pushes into Pakistan and the Southern Middle East, managing to snag Somalia before the United Commonwealth can. They survived up to this point by just flinging sheer numbers at their ever-going-inward North-West border. To avoid seeming naughty with how they take all these countries, they follow the example set by their neighbors and make a fake democracy.

During the 2nd Invasion, they help the Oriental Empire push the Goners out of Indochina and get half of it. They fall behind on taking the islands south of Indochina and Australia and so only get half the islands, but none of Australia.

During the Human Counter-Attack, the Indian Empire was like "you know what would be fun: not even giving the aliens the chance to surrender before virus-bombing them because we wanna do this as quickly as possible because it's totally gonna be a thing of "you take'ah the planet you keep-ah the planet.".". Afterwards, nobody wanted the guys that would immediately jump the genocide gun just to save time and snag extra territory to actually get extra territory and so they were outvoted by the other 5 nations and, due to this, the planets acquired from the human counter-attack were split evenly based on resources, infrastructure and other factors.

India started Humanity War 3. Some Russian planets had mostly Vietnamese, Pakistani and Arabian populations on them, having emigrated from the Indian Republics, and the Indian Republics was like "well if they're mostly my people I guess the planets are mine IN WITH THE TROOOOOPS" to which Russia replied with "BITCH THEY CHOSE TO LEAVE YOUR COUNTRY THEY'RE MINE NOW AND SO ARE THOSE PLANETS IN WITH THE TROOOOPS " and things escalated from there as all 6 Nations got involved.

When the UHN rose, the Indian Republics were on the side opposed to it. They lost because they kept yeeting large numbers of troops at the enemy without giving them proper training first so you had troops with sniper rifles using them like a 90s gangsta uses a pistol moments before being taken out with a single shot to the head with a pistol by the UHN soldier than was standing 5 feet away and had just walked around the corner.

Disbandment

Getting rekked by the UHN. Big F. First lad to fall.

Demography and Population

Indians and Pakistanis and Vietnamese and Arabians and Iranians and Somalians...

Territories

They get the luck of bordering the angsty LIR and are the 2nd nation to be taken out by the UHN (1st in an actually drawn-out conflict as the Scandinavian Union fell faster than the Maldives would to Aquaman leading the Atlantian Army from atop Godzilla's head. Also F for Maldives because they're gonna not exist due to climate change. F.). Their territory leans out slightly towards the edge of the galaxy (but is its closest point to there is still barely any closer than Earth).

Military

The Republican Guard (under-trained "troops" who are used more for public services in peace time under the guise of keeping them fit for fighting), Youth Defense Force (it's exactly what it sounds like) and the actual main Military of the Indian Republics, which is the one that gets called in for small border skirmishes, quick invasions and anything else you need done quickly as they're the only ones with legitimate competence.

Technological Level

The same as the other human nations, just without the same degree of use. Many are using extremely basic and little technology in their daily lives in the Indian Republics but the rich live very tech-gasmic lives.

Religion

So many. Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Scientology. Everything.

Foreign Relations

"We must work together against our common enemy"

*some time later*

"No common enemy = no need not to skiddle up to one another with knives in our hands"

Agriculture & Industry

They actually have the best agri-tech and food-based infrastructure. Something about feeding hordes of people?

Trade & Transport

Their best trade buddies are the Oriental Empire and US.

Education

Children of the Indian Republics: "can we get an education to make us more qualified for work as adults?"

*Shrek template* Government of the Indian Republics: "Good question". *followed by Bugs Bunny* No.

When I say the Indian Republics have people, I mean a lot of people. Tonnes of refugees came into India from Africa and the Middle East during the 1st Goner Invasion and India, hoping to beat the Goners with sheer numbers, encouraged... frequent reproduction. In an already heavily populated nation, you can guess how this goes even after they basically conquer themselves tonnes of land. Due to military needs, very little was being taught in overcrowded schools beyond "this is lizard person. To kill lizard person, find a blunt object and apply to the back of the head with excessive force". This became a serious problem later as, when none of the children are being taught maths, they themselves cannot become maths teachers as adults (and then insert almost every school subject in the place of maths).

So, when the Goners are defeated, very little of the population has any education and there's a massive population. The Indian Republics decide the best way around this issue is to make it so that educations are no longer provided by the state and that any parents who want little Aditya to not end up working in a factory full of toxic chemicals and being conned by his boss because he hasn't even been taught how to count the less-than-his-wage-is-meant-to-be pennies that are being dropped into his hand at the end of every week have to privately hire a tutor or send him to a private school. In other words, Aditya's parents best be loaded or else Aditya's gonna be cleaning bins.

There are also a lot of charities that work to provide children with education, some of them actually being a means of laundering money, but they just can't cut it and so around 90% of the population grows up with no education beyond the most basic things that their parents can teach them.

Infrastructure

Wanna know a side-effect of overpopulation? Slums. There are a lot of them. The Indian Republics Government doesn't usually help colonists with building things on pre-terraformed (by the Goners) worlds, with them usually just living in what were once the homes of the lizard folk (which can lead to crooked backs as the Goners are 3 feet tall on average and have ceiling heights that suit this) and then, once their population exceeds what Goner ruins can provide, building slums outwards in all directions from the Goner cities.
DISBANDED/DISSOLVED
