Sympathetic
Sympathetic magic is an approach that creates connections between items, Materia, or places based on magical or identity resonances. It's this that allows magical locks on items, blood-based tracking, a variety of navigational techniques, and other magical approaches to finding things.
Education
Taught at all Five Schools, with a focus on different applications.Applications
- Detecting ice (for ocean ships)
- Identifying materials used in an object
- Making offerings or potions with specific purposes.
- Archaeology, helping to identify related parts of an object (a broken part) or the best places to dig.
- Some of the underlying magic involved in creating potions or apothecary items.
- Magical beings like the Belin also rely on sympathetic magic.
Examples
A new identification technique is developed in Pastiche that depends on sympathetic magic. A key part of the project at the centre of Illusion of a Boar relies on sympathetic magic (and Hypatia Ward's expertise with it).Notable experts
